hope this is a congress knife
It is one of my first knives. I was told to look for Boker and Hen and Rooster knives
this is not one of my favorite patterns unless it only has two blades

this is a old Walden knife with blade issues

Lyle: The bolsters are just like they left the factory (circa. 1869-1914); no customizing.

to all who posted and started this thread, thanks, some very beautiful works of art, and the pride and loving care shows in all of them, as I have come to expect from the AAPK family. Like I said, this is not a favorite pattern of mine yet, the only serious cut I got is from the newer Boker I am going to show
I was told to only open one blade at a time, but you can see no one follows that advise here.
Bet congress knives account for the most bandaids used by AAPK folks?
so here are some not as beautiful, newer, and even a Japan congress I have to complete my meager, second rate collection

I have been going back in time, reading, enjoying and learning from all this forum has to offer

This is a little different congress, 22639 Catt.

I'm not sure that Catt is a congress. The back of the knife looks straight, not curved.

I have several Robeson patterns like that and at first glance they look like congress knives, but they're not.

Beautiful knife though.

On a 3 inch knife the curve is not as noticeable until you put a straight edge against it.

I really like that arched shield on that congress and beautiful bone JB.

Here is one of the Robesons of which I spoke. It's about the same size as your Cattaraugus.

It is straight on the back side. The open blades are confusing too.

I mentioned in my first post, if it does not have a sheep foot master blade it is not considered a Congress knife.

They must have had a new guy doing the tang stamps. 2250 Catt.

Actually, I was referring to the appearance the knife had of being curved. I know it's a penknife with a pen and cuticle blade.

Neither of these has a sheepfoot for a master blade, though.

Here is a very old Waterville with Ivory handles.

Nice one Dimitri! Here is one from about the same era: Vulcan Knife Co Germany 4 blade with real tortoise shell scales(sadly cracked).Patent date on the shield of April 5 1892.

Are you sure they are real tortoise shell handles? I think they are celluloid.

Reason being those style handles were patented by a man named August Pauls, in his patent application he refers to the handle material for his invention as being made of celluloid or "a plastic substance".

You will notice there are no pins holding the handles on because the sheet metal bolsters are embedded into the celluloid and that is what holds them down.

You know until you mentioned it tonight I never noticed that there were no pins holding the scales on! I just finished looking at the scales under a 30x loupe and although the layering common to tortoise shell isn't easily visible it is there.I tied to take some pictures to show it but can't get a good enough closeup.
