What wood are the scales made of?

I agree with Dave. It seems to me that I've only seen Cocobolo (mostly) and Ebony on those knives and that sure as heck ain't Ebony.

I'd have check some old catalogs, but I think the wood on these look a little too light to be cocobolo.

Rosewood is my guess.

I started off collecting Robeson's back years ago but moved on to other brands when I didn't have much luck. I still pick them up when I can find a bargain, really well made knives. These are the ones I've picked up over the years, I included a Terrier pearl peanut:

Here is a picture of some of the Robeson's open. The wooden teardrop jack is marked simply Robeson/Cutlery Co.
It appears to be the oldest of the lot however, I can't find the marking in Goins', any ideas about the age? The bottom knife has a metal bezel around the handles, which appear to be made of a rubber like material, pretty interesting.

Yes the tang stamp appears to be identical. Both blades have the long pull also. No Germany or England on back.

Knife appears to me to be American made.

Some misguided soul ground the kick down, probably to make the point seat below the liners, and got a little carried away, otherwise the knife is in great shape.

Here's a little Robeson. I can't believe how small this knife is, but it doesn't know its small.

I have a two blade pearl, as well.

That whittler and congress must be mighty fine little knives. And the whittler must be hard to make, as are most small knives I would assume.
Would you know model numbers of those knives by any chance.

Beautiful knives. The red background on the Pocketeze shields is stunning with beautiful bone to match. Case got nothing on those!

What have I got here? Looks like a 1917-1939 tang stamp. The covers are black and flat and jigged something maybe bone?but probably plastic of some kind. It has 3 blades with pretty good snap yet and is 4 inches long closed. Got it in a box of misc. at an auction. It's no cherry but kind of a unique knife, I don't own many Robesons and was just questioning the flat covers. Any further info would be appreciated. It just doesn't seem to have the quality I see in other robesons, maybe someone put a Robeson blade on a different brand of pocket knife? Any comments won't hurt my feelings, thanks, Terry

I had that same model and was told it is a real Robeson. Just made toward the end when quality suffered.

A knife from the late 1950's early 1960's, although the tang stamp suggests otherwise, if you think all the published data re' Robeson stamps is gospel.

I don't know why the knives have that earlier stamp, but they do.

They made an all metal version, as well. Some say the metal handles are aluminum, some "pewter", some nickel-silver.

I lean toward aluminum, although I have never owned one, as I find them patently unattractive.

I think the knives came about when Robeson was struggling financially, as an inexpensive way to put a serviceable knife to market.

They show up on Ebay almost every week, so they must have sold a bunch of them.
