Thx Bruce!
From posts or private messages I have put together a schedule of who wrestles with Griz nest!!! In order here we go:
1967redrider - Yes Sir, actually in the wilds of Western MD. There are about 6-8 of us that hunt on a little over 400 acres, about half is on the family farm. I've been hunting whitetails for 5 years straight now, rifle starts the weekend after Thanksgiving. I do some turkey hunting as well. Some of the guys bow and muzzle-loader hunt as well, I think I just read that bow starts on September 1.
OldHunter - I won't be deer hunting until the end of September/early October. OH
Whit107 - Hunting starts mid October around here but I usually don't hunt much till late November through end of December. Mostly I hunt whitetail.
313Mike - Yes I do bowhunt...The season starts the third Saturday in September, but I usually don't go out until October when the bugs die down a bit...then I go for a full week in the beginning of November too.
Zp4ja - I am in as I said. It will be a few months till I make make my turn lucrative. I have a cow Elk tag I drew this year but the season does not start until Late November thru January. I have to check the exact dates. I can use it prior that if needed but you won't see a pic of it, gutting a Elk, embedded deeply in a Elk heart or the organ of you choosing, etc. I only ask that before I get the knife, the prior member get Grizzly pretty sharpened up, not my strongest skill, as it need to be razor sharp, but I will make due if not and I will ship to the next member with blood on it and still embedded in the organ of their choice. Wait, maybe not the still embedded in the organ part as if the packing leaks, then USPS will call the authorities and I hate paperwork, etc.

The Maryland Hunting Season Calender can be found part of the way down on the left at this address;
http://www.dnr.state.md.us/huntersguide/index.asp
Currently only crow is in season but more kicks off around September 7th. Guess we can eat crow mostly anytime.
Just wanted to add- cool blog and video, Scott.

Ole Griz has been getting some work in......he's been going with me on every fishing trip and performing
regular chores on the boat, cutting line, leaders and snacks. Also chunked up a few more halibut and some
crab bait in the last few days. The knife is a real work horse and extremely comfortable to use. I meant
to get some pics of Rick chopping up some chum salmon for crab bait but it was raining pretty hard and I was
busy filling the bait cages/cans. Have had some luck on the last couple trips....the largest halibut in the
pic is almost 50lb, and we have scored some really nice dungeness crab.....got 14 today. A couple days ago
on the way back in from halibut fishing we came across some sea lions sunning themselves on some rocks.
There was one extra large guy that was making all kinds of noise and was clearly top dog. One of them had
a flasher stuck around his neck.....kind of a bummer for him (and for the fisherman who got his gear taken).
Overall I am giving this knife high marks for ease of use, and it's holding it's edge very well. The sheath
is very nicely made and in a style that I really like. AWESOME hunting/fishing/boat knife!!

Trevor -- Would you rather have a synthetic handle on it? Something the wet & blood couldn't have any effect on over time? Maybe something a little more grippy for wet & bloody hands?
You sure are giving the feller a workout. Settin' the bar pretty high for those who follow.

Jerry, I could see where a synthetic handle might improve the grip in some extreme circumstances, but I have
to say that the knife has been strong performer so far. The handle has enough shape to it from side to side and
top to bottom to provide a comfortable and secure grip. The pommel on the knife is done perfectly and allows you
to get a really solid grip that just doesn't slip, gloves or no gloves. The hilt could be a touch longer but does
let your forefinger bite in a little for pushing tasks and in slippery conditions. The blade has shallow jimping
but it is functional and keeps your thumb from slipping forward. I don't know.....maybe the knife just fits my
hand right.....I'm really looking forward to what others experiences will be. Here are a few pics of the handle
shape as well as a pic of Griz with a couple of my go to knives. The Gerber was carried for 20yr as my main
knife, the Benchmade is what I have been carrying for the last couple years. It's interesting to note that each
knife provides an excellent grip in adverse conditions but they each do it in a different way. Griz achieves it
through handle contour, strong pommel and adequate jimping, the Gerber through a slightly textured handle and
perfectly executed finger reliefs top and bottom, and the Benchmade delivers through a slightly contoured handle
that features very well done texturing on a rubberized style grip and wrist strap. Griz has been a real pleasure
to use and it seems clear that Case knows how to build a highly functional field knife. There isn't much that's
more slippery than halibut slime and this knife did not miss a beat....well designed for sure, I will miss ole
Griz a little bit I think.

Thanks Scott, for the nice words and the use of this very fine Case knife!
Thought I would post a pic of a cooked Dungeness Crab and the amount of meat that one crab can have.
The crab shown is just under 8" (measured across the back). The plate that the meat is on is 9" and was 'picked' from a
crab that was slightly over 8". Dungies yield about 25% of their weight in meat.......which is very good in the crab world.
Made some crab melts yesterday and even though it's a simple preparation, it's one of my favorites. Another is a crab
omelette with olives, zucchini, mushrooms and a cheese sauce over the top.........
Got a dozen more to crack, they take 15-20min each but are worth it.
(it's hard to tell in the pic but the whitest meat (shoulder meat, my favorite) is about 2.5" deep on the plate)

Oh man Trevor those crab melts look outsight!
I bet you could make a "crab roll" out of that meat too...like the traditional New England Lobster Roll but with fresh crab instead. Thanks for sharing the pics, wish you could share a sandwich!!

Well Trev, basic is what it's all about! You want to let the lobster (or in your case crab) shine and not overpower it with alot of other stuff. The authentic New England style lobster roll would use a white hot dog roll, buttered and grilled...then just mix your lobster (crab) with a small amount of mayo and pile it on. Top it with a little bit of chopped celery if you like, and a slight sprinkle of paprika (I like smoked paprika myself), close 'er up and you're ready to roll. Serve with some crispy french fries and you're set! I'll be over in about.....how long does it take to get from Wisconsin to Alaska? ...

Sounds good Scott.......just get me a shipping addy.
I took Griz out yesterday in my little skiff. We launched out of Douglas Harbor and ran down Gastineau Channel and
then across to Admiralty Island near Point Arden. Cruised the beach looking for bears or deer but did not see any.
Ended up doing a little beach-combing and scored a few nice floats and a crab pot. Decided to walk the beach a
little on Admiralty so I anchored the skiff and tied off to a rootwad near the tree line. When I turned around to
head for a little point nearby I noticed some fairly fresh Brown Bear tracks....a few sets actually that were left
at different times. I carefully made my way around the point to a stream that had some salmon in it, but was not
lucky enough to spot any feeding bears. I did get a good pic of Griz next to one of the fresher tracks though.
Not a huge bear left it, but a good medium sized one anyway. Admiralty Island has the largest concentration of
Brown Bear on the planet so seeing some sign wasn't a surprise, but it always makes you extra aware of noises and
it's a good idea to look behind you often. After that little stop I went on up towards Young's Bay and then across
to Point Hilda on the back side of Douglas Island. Saw two of the largest Sea Lions swimming together tnat I have
ever seen and hundreds of Eagles. Never did spot any game......but the weather was decent and I put about 30 miles
on all together. I just got the little 15' used Duraboat a couple months ago and the motor it had on it was junk.
Picked up a 2005 Yamaha 25HP 4stroke a month ago and it has been terrific so far. It's no speedboat but runs about
25mph with any load and is doing well on fuel. Have always had fiberglass boats and this one makes getting to shore
so much easier. Also picked up a 4HP Yamaha 4stoke for a trolling motor and the lift bracket should be here today or
tomorrow, maybe will post an updated pic when thats done. It's been a very productive little boat already. Griz
didn't get much of a workout on the boat but he did a fine job cutting up some line for crab pots after I got home.
Rick and I made up a few 'shots' (50' sections with long eyes on each end) to attach to some pots we will be fishing.
The more I use this knife the more I like it, great sized knife for anything I have needed. Strong 9 of 10 for me.
