All About Pocket Knives

That lockback is about 5 1/4" or so.Commonly called a pig sticker.Nothing like a trapper.Both Napanoch and Valley Forge made the pattern,maybe others.

Thanks for putting your nice knife in this thread. It's a beauty.
When we measure knives we always measure them in the closed position.
How long is your knife in the closed position?
Can you give us close, in focus photos of the tang, both front and back?

If it is 5 1/4" i agree it is not a Trapper, however to say "Nothing like a trapper" is not correct. Look at a Remington R1253 Trapper: handle shape is very similar to this Griffon except lockback is not in same location.
And if 5 1/4 it is not commonly seen but is one of the least seen patterns. Slang terms like "pig sticker", "toad sticker", etc. are regional. What might be common in The South might be unheard of out West, at least in pre internet daze.

Its 5 and 5/16 inches closed, and under closer inspection i see a bport ct. stamp underneath the the griffonxx scroll. the bportct. part is really hard to read so thanks to djknife13 for mentioning it earlier in the thread. that helped me decipher what was almost impossible to read. ill post better pics soon.

Mark, your link is most helpful here. It shows the range of names for this large (over 5") pattern, some of which have "Trapper" as part of the name:
"Some people call the curved frame a banana trapper"
and
"In addition to Banana trapper, clasp knife and folding hunter these knives are often referred to as toad stickers"
and
" I call this pattern below a Banana knife, Toad-sticker, HOBO or Hunters knife"

I know this an older thread but came across it while doing some research on a Silberstein Bros knife that i picked up recently and couldn't help but to join in the fun..
Here's the Silberstein Bros knife and the two Griffon knives that I have.

I have yet to see a Griffon I didn't like. They are pretty scarce up here and I think I have only one or two, but I sure like them.____Dave
