I was invited to dinner at my aunt’s house last night and when I got there she told me she’d found a pocketknife while moving some things in the house. She figured it must have belonged to my uncle who passed away several years ago. Turned out to be a Case 62009 1/2 barlow.

Image

It was in solid shape. The only real blemish is a decent sized chip on the main blade but I could get someone to sharpen that out if desired. Getting ahead of myself on that front though. Blades are still tight and after a good cleaning/oiling they walk and talk nicely. Tang stamp dates it to ’65-’69, making it the oldest Case I’ve got by at least a year.

It’s a nice old knife in its own right, and I love a classic barlow, but the link to my uncle is what really means a lot. Being presented with it gave me a feeling similar to when I unexpectedly found my dad’s barlow a few years back. In a way it’s something of a reunion between my dad and uncle. Even though the men are gone the memories are still here and come together in interesting ways.

Gard, you might want to try putting them inside your pocket while doing a little work outside. Your own perspiration might loosen them up and seat the knives. I'm sure others have their own tricks. Nice looking setups you have there. ::tu:: Good luck!

jujigatame, nice old barlow you inherited there! I have that same model, and I really like how the pen blade is out in front of the main blade on that one...and of course the connection to your uncle makes it priceless..great find.

Garddog nice set of red ones there! Please post up the results of your wet molding of the sheaths...I was just researching that a bit myself. There's a couple of youtube vids that go through it. I've just acquired a pouch style sheath for a large Case trapper and the knife is a tad loose in there, so I was thinking on giving it a try. I'd be interested to see how it works out for ya.

My pleasure Mike ::nod:: they feel great snug as a bug in a rug.I suggest if ya do this use a spoon to form the leather,on the hunter I used my finger tips where it falls off the handle to the flat of the blade and it shows, on the base I used the spoon BIG differance ::tu:: I still don't trust the cross draw sheath ::shrug::

Is that goldstone acrylic or celluloid? Regardless it's a fine looking knife!
