Nice little pen, Joe. Now I know why my mother always told me to stay out of bad environments!
Here’s my favorite pen knife pattern - 06267.
Ha! ............... From what we see of you today, Ken, it seems like you listened to her.
Your knives are beautiful; trusted little pals.

Thanks! They are little dandies. As for me, I sowed my share of “wild oats” in my younger years, but got it all out of my system. I’m pretty boring nowadays.

So does a Pen knife have to have a pen blade?
What is the difference between a pen knife and a half whittler?
Can something as large as a moose with a blade at each end be considered a pen knife or is it just to large?

Nice group, love the old red bones, I feel it's one of my favorite Case patterns too. Probably why they cancelled it.

Case keeps cancelling all my favorite patterns and bone colors.

Hey Ivoryman - yeah, I hear you on Case cancelling all our fave patterns - one of my all time faves is the 6235-1/2 ... it's like a barlow, but better.

Yeah, you know it. The 35 1/2 is another of my faves, have one, and again, not making it. Such a disappointment, I just cannot for the life of me figure out why they would cancel such cool patterns. Just look at these, why on earth retire it? But here are some pics from the good old days for posterity.

Nice bone on that 35-1/2. My best is an appaloosa a6235-1/2 - nicer than I can get in a picture (only negative is the pull is almost too hard though) ...

Yes, a pen knife must have a pen blade. These were used to trim quills to use as pens, in the old days, so they were small knives with small blades, or at least with one small pen blade. A Trapper, Muskrat, or Moose are not pen knives.
"Half Whittler" is the name that one manufacturer used for their design, but many knife collectors do not recognize that as a separate pattern. If I remember correctly, if the man blade and pen blade were on the same side they called it a Peanut pattern. If they were on opposite sides, it was the half-whittler. Some people stick with that definition, while some call the half Whittler a pen knife.
Don't take my word as the Gospel, but that is my understanding of the differences.

Thanks Reverand and I won't consider it the gospel, but I do appreciate your history and your definition.
