All About Pocket Knives

Impossible task to pick ONE nicest looking old knife. Every knife posted to date is a contender. So far, for me, I would have to say Joe's ivory congress whittler, or Roger's Forest King.

This thread is like like the "Academy Awards of Knives" - but in fact there are no winners - as said it is impossible to pick one over another

Mel's post of Roger's Hunter reminded me about that beauty as well

and JamesC41001 - What a spectacular Northfield ... Another very elusive company mark to find and that knife is the nicest Northfield that I have ever seen ... The curves and edges of the blades along with the swell-center frame is like looking at a piece of art ... WOW!!!!!

Well said Lee. I think the gentlemen who made it was at the top of his game. I found a picture of an Ulster knife that is very similar but it has jigged bone covers.

Somebody here has or had a schrade cut 08883 stockman, I do not recall who. This pattern is the nicest looking knife in the world to me.
Another very nice one that I’m quite fond of is a schrade cut 8566 jr cattle posted by miller bros. This is the only one that I have seen.

As others have stated there have been many extraordinary vintage knives posted by members here and it is impossible to pick one. One that stands out for me is an Ulster Barlow with an etch that Galvanic has, I'm a barlow guy and that knife is stunning, I hope Mike can post a pic of that knife again.

2 in my collection that I think qualify are an unused stag Joseph Rodgers Congress and a Challenge Carpenters jack.

Joe - Eloquent looking MOP Wadsworth

John - Those are no doubt 2 stunners ... That Rodgers was stuck in my mind from your first post of it - a real "sleeper" and never used - Gorgeous knife and though England is on the stamp I am thinking not too far after 1890 on that one - just a guess based on stag... That Challenge Carpenters Jack is sweet too

Ok John here is the barlow, That Rodgers knife is fantastic! I've been looking for them lately and that's a beauty.

This thread is fun but a hard one, so many nice knives posted it's hard to choose. I think that pearl or abalone's are hard to beat as far as nicest looking but that's just me. I love bone and one of my favorite's is horn with some color in it. Then you have all the fantastic etches which are great too. Roger has the lead on those thats for sure!!

Here are my carved pearl Utica's that to me are just beautiful and Abalone's. Oh man what about some great celluloid??

I am running out of adjectives to describe the knives posted here and on the pre 1960 thread. Lovely, beautiful, nice, very nice and great (my usual standbys for comments) all seem to be not enough. I am going to have to dig out my old thesaurus. Anyway, another batch of awesome (not really a big fan of this term) and stupendous knives posted by Paul, Joe, John and Mike!

Paul - 2 very nice Cut Co!

Joe - as Lee said, an elegant Wadsworth pearl with unique bolsters!

John - 2 fantastic knives, the Joseph Rodgers is right up there as one of the top knives posted in this thread so far, in my opinion!

Mike - those etched Uticas are really special, I am especially partial to the carved pearl congresses! That celluloid is right up there as well.

Funny but there is a line for that one, must have been asked by 10 guys to let them know if I want to sell it! I love the darn thing too!

Nice to see this old thread come back up to the top! There are so many more beautiful knives posted since this thread started it's hard to choose just one

But, I am going to nominate this one from the Sheffield Exhibition thread!

Here's a few galvanic1882 posted in the past which really stick in my ol' noggin and deserve to be here imho -

Empire- and to me another exquisite piece of cutlery - check out how the blades were shaped to the frame !!

Lee I have to agree with you on the Empire tuxedo! That knife made a large imprint in my brain from the first time Mike posted it.

That Sheffield knife is beyond "incredible."

Going back over this thread for the first time in awhile and trying not to drool on the keyboard. Way too many nice knives here.
Thought I would put this one in as one of my favorite knives in my accumulation. Bought from Mike DeFeo from New Hampshire who used to write articles for several knife magazines. Paid more money for it than any other knife I had at the time(it was still a deal)and never regretted it. Many years later I wound up with a Penn Cutlery deer foot knife that he had written an article about in a magazine.Got it from someone else. Don't think Mike kept knives very long.
Anyway here it is:A Press Button Knife Co. one armed man's knife with the A.A.Marks etch still visible on the blade.
