Jay:

Thanks for your response and the photo.

It's as if they have trouble controlling the color distribution on the dead skunk handle material.

Oh well, I feel lucky to have gotten one and as always, the GEC precision work is displayed in the knife.

I was lucky enough to get 3 of the low run examples of the 33 and am hoping to get my paws on a gen. stag when they are released.

Best,
Wilder

Genuine Stag (Qty 35)
Ancient Kauri Wood [50,000 year old wood] (Qty 35)

------------------------------

Looks like the above are the only 2 left to be made.

I wonder if the Ancient Kauri Wood is still planned.

They'll probably go fast.

Have I mentioned about 3 or 4 times so far that I'm on board for a gen. stag?

LOL!

Something good should be showing up at your mailbox tomorrow or Saturday...

Those last two runs should be finishing up. The factory did say that the stabilization on the kauri wood left it a little darker than they had hoped but that it was an exceptional wood type with a great history. They were going to mark the run of kauri as "Factory Test Run" and take feedback as to the viability of adding this slab to their line-up from time to time. So that leads me to believe it will be showing up on a FedEx truck any day now....

hi guys,

I read somewhere that this pattern is based on the "baloon" pattern, is it true? I search for baloon patern and I found this pic. it doesn't have a bail tough. does the "original baloon" had a bail? anybody have that pattern? I like it if they stay to the original myself ::nod::

thank you

No, it is most definitely not a balloon pattern. You have to be careful what the pattern experts will say from time to time. GEC doesn't get caught up in setting each knife in a historical slot. It is a swell center half congress or swell center pen model in my opinion. But since Bill has history with Queen, I expect it was loosely based on the #48 whittler (which just so happened to be balloon ended).

I got my buffalo horn #33 conductor today. It's drop dead gorgeous. The horn has some light streaking in it. The blades are razor sharp with perfect snap.

I ordered the knife on Tuesday night from CollectorKnives.net. It went out Wednesday and was here today, shipping was free. You just can't beat that kind of service. A fantastic knife and service to match! ::ds:: Thank you Mike Latham.

Mike:

That's a keeper!

I received 2 #33s in this morning's mail.

The buffalo horn is a deep brown with real pretty tan or cream-colored streaks on each side.

The other is a southeastern turquoise.

I like them both but was most pleasantly surprised with the buffalo horn, probably because there was no photo and I didn't get to see it until it arrived today.

2 GREAT GECs!

Thanks again for the heads up on the b.h.

Best,
Wilder

"Thanks again for the heads up on the b.h." I didn't even know about them til I saw your post. Good thing we acted fast. :D

Yes, it's buffalo horn. I didn't know they were doing any in horn until Wilder mentioned in this thread. I was looking for one in bone. It's the only knife I have with horn scales and I like it a lot.

That looks great with the streaks. ::tu:: The ones I saw pics of were jet black with no character at all.

It's more noticeable in person too.

I'm a sucker for the Northfields because of those ringed bolsters and the long pull. ::ds::

::ds::
how do those burnt stags look?

The ones I got look pretty nice but I've seen a few of them that look a little sketchy.
I'm not a big fan of the stag with a lot of gray in it and I've seen a few like that and a few that are not matched very well.
I have yet to see one in person but I'll see the 2 I bought today probably by Friday.
I would rather have bought the gen. stag but I think those are going to go fast and be hard to get so I bought these burnt stags as "insurance".
They were $99.99 delivered and they were limited to 25 serialized, so i think I'm okay.
I like bigger knives but somehow I got hooked on these #33s.

When will the addiction stop?
I'm runnin' out of money!
When the dust clears only Monk will be left standing ::ds::
