Jerry - on some of the songs you are posting I can hear the old "vinyl hiss", are you transferring from vinyl to computer program? What unit do you use? I'd like to get some of my old vinyl to computer and on to CD.

Thanks T.J. For some reason, I have a mind block when it comes to David Frizzel. There, I fixed it.

I don't know where to start with this song. It's one my dad would occasionally sing from the pulpit. In the middle of one of his sermons, he would spontaneously burst out in song and along with "I Come To The Garden Alone" and "Peace In The Valley", those three were his favorites. It became one of my favorites as well, so this song has a lot of deep meaning in my life. The first time I saw "Gomer Pyle" sing it, I just about broke my jaw when it hit the floor. Who knew Jim Nabors could sing like this. "Goll-lee, Andy" How Great Thou Art ........

I'm more progressive in my love of country music, but my dad liked all that early stuff. That being said, I did like me some Hank Jr.

That's some good stuff Glenn. Hank, Jr. does some pretty good stuff. Saw him once in '66 at the NCO Club at Ft. Hood, TX - he was doing his Dad's stuff then. Nickel Creek - progressisve, yes, but supurb musicians. Johnson Mountain Boys were one of my favorite bands when they were together - Dudley Connell(sp?) is with the Seldom Scene now, shouda stayed with JMB. Dixie Chicks, that's some sexy looking music right there. Thanks for posting Glenn.

I enjoy a little Hank Jr. now and then. I don't reach for the volume knob when he comes on.

That was my first Nickel Creek. Good. Not country but still good. From their actions it looked like they were trying to play "hard rock country". Maybe that's what they are and not progressive or maybe that's what progressive is.

I liked those Johnson Mountain Boys. I can listen to that.

Not only do I not care for the politics of the Dixie Chicks, I don't care for their music. It's a personal opinion.

Thanks for posting those. I enjoy all kinds of music and am always glad to be exposed to something that's new to me. I was hoping this thread would be more of a community effort and not a one man show.

This is Johhny Hiland. Grew up in Maine, and can play the a$$ of a guitar. Not only bluegrass, but blues and rock as well. I was supposed to see him with Hal Ketchum in Sept. but Hal got sick. I was bummed, cause that would have a good show.

While I admire their technical expertise, the sound is a little too modern for my ear. Thanks for posting it. Ya never know when you're going to run into your newest favorite musician. Take for example the Hawaiian slack key guitar I posted earlier...

I had some wild times with David Allen Coe's roadies back in the early 80's. Those boys were all BIG, ugly, hardcore biker types and they ALWAYS had some great road dope.

I love that song and The Glaser Brothers did it well. The version that means the most to me was done on the album "Natural Act" by Kris Kristofferson & Rita Coolidge, back when they were still billin' & coo'in. I found the album at a time when I was going through a messy divorce that wasn't my idea. Give a listen and tell me what you think.Lovin' You Was Easier Than Anything I'll Ever Do Again ........

I've never heard of Townes Van Zandt. My favorite version of Pancho and Lefty is, of course, the one I posted earlier by Hoyt Axton and I think, of any I've heard so far, I like the Johnny Cash version of "The Ballad of Ira Hayes" best.
