All About Pocket Knives

I love this thread. The knives you people are putting up are elegante'. My knife isn't all that old but it is Pre-Ban Ivory. If the Gods be willing I'll have another Ivory knife in about two months. I have it located now I have to figure out how to get my hands on it.

Those ivory handle Boker`s have not seen much light over the years to still be that white.

Quill Knife.

Here is an interesting one from South India, I was told it is a "pen knife". It quite literally is a knife that works as a pen. The handle is one piece of ivory. It has no back spring. An example of writing done using this knife is shown below, the medium is a banana leaf.

(edit: Apparently, this type of knife is called a Coir (Shackleford, 2009). He states that it is a rug weavers knife.)

Here are a couple more ivory handles, both pen knives. The top is a Northfield, EXCELSIOR KNIFE Co, and the bottom is an AMERICAN SHEAR & KNIFE Co.

I posted this in another thread but the pictures weren't all that clear so I re-shot them and decided to put them up here.

I don't normally buy knives with broken blades but this one was so unusual I couldn't pass it up.The price was right too.

It appears to be a quill knife with a most unusual attachment:what looks like an early version of a mechanical pencil.Not sure when they were first made but this maker(Unwin & Rogers)was only in business from 1828 -1867 according to BRL.Another unusual feature that I only have on two other knives in my collection that this has is a tapered backspring.Oh yes the price:$6.Not too bad for a 140 year old relic.

And thanks MB for a better picture of the tang stamp, these two American Shears look to be nearly identical. Your's is such a nice color, it sure hasn't seen much sun!

They sure do! It has seen some light but not much after all these years

I may have posted this before, but is truly belongs in this thread. Unmarked French Jack with a corkscrew and original pouch. Construction and lack of a mark would lean toward mid 1800's.

tfs that is sleek. The ivory sure has a beautiful glossy texture.

And, I really enjoy the lines in that elephant ivory bundu how long is the handle? Looks like quite a chunk of ivory there.
