Thanks, yes I love the stag too. Next week I will post another one as soon as I get a chance. I wish I could find the patent sheet on this one. According to Levine's 4th it is an Edmonds, I think thats the name, patent. I have not found it on the Google Patent search.

S-K any help would be appricated, Mike

Hi Mike, looking forward to seeing the photos of the Edmonds knife. I'll try to find some information. Until then, I'll add this Saynor knife to keep the momentum going. :D s-k

S-K, The knife I posted was refered to as an Edmonds patent. There is one shown in Levine's Marked Wostenholm but it looks the same as the one I posted. The one I am going to post is marked Wostenholm but is a bit different.

Willie; it's not my knife. I took that photo off an active auction on a popular internet auction site.

I think that knife was designed for the two-handed grip, over-head swing, pruning technique. Like Samurai gardeners would use. "Hai !!!!"

Something else just came to my mind, I wonder if it might have been a big "display" knife that got pressed into duty somewhere along the line. ::shrug::

Seems strange to have stag handles on a working knife of that size.

It's still neat and I'm glad you posted it. ::tu::

That big pruner is great ::tu::

This William Rodgers (a trade name owned by John Clarke and Sons) has some nice bone scales and the blade has seen little if any use. :D s-k

Here is the other one I promised to post. It's marked GEORGE WOSTENHOLMS CELEBRATED IXL Cutlery on all 3 blades. The blades do not fold after they are put in the handle. Great piece with the handle being 5 " long. It came in a frail leather pouch. The straight knife is a Wostenholm also that came in the same pouch but I think it was added later it's 8" long overall.

I love that BIG one Charlie.

Michael, those are fantastic! I wonder how many different blades were available for that set? ::hmm::

I have only the 3 blades and a large saw blade in the set. The poch has a slot for one more blade but the ivory knife fits into it so I would say it had one more blade that is missing or the ivory knife did come with the set.

The etch reads THE REAL IXL KNIFE.

Just got this one in the mail today. Someone has ground the tang stamp off so I got it for $4.99 with free shipping. It could be just about anything since everybody and his brother used those fake wood composition handles. What do you think? Cammillus? Did they do shiny blades?
