All About Pocket Knives

This is my example of an Eagle Phila. PA knife. You can still make out part of the Hammer arm on the main blade & parts of the New York Walden stamp on the secondary blade.

Here is a New York Hammer that Bret got yesterday. I really like California Clip blades!

I like that pattern. Those blades look like they haven't been used that much. Nice score.

I don't understand why you say you cannot post pics here, but you can upload them to PhotoBucket.

Read the tutorial on posting pics. It's simple.

When wring your post:

Click "BROWSE"

Locate your pic on your computer and highlight it.

Click "OPEN"

Then click "ADD THE FILE"

Your pics need to be in JPEG form and below a certain size in MGBytes.

One thing to remember about posting Photobucket images here is that if you delete the image in Photobucket, it will be deleted here and another will take it's place.

Here's one that goes in this thread, even though it's not an NYK. It's a Walkill River Works, which, as I understand it was a second brand for NYK. You can clearly see its pedigree on the distinctive bone handles.

This one is a jumbo jack (4 1/4") in excellent condition, a few blade scratches from near mint.

Here's a pretty unique one! I've had it for a while, but just kept over looking it.
Pretty easy to see why!

It's a frame-less knife with aluminum scales.
The pen blade is thin and has a spacer that sits on top of the spring. This allows it to sit
inside the scales without interfering with the main blade.

For this to be an ad knife, it must have been kind of expensive!
Aluminum wasn't a semi precious metal, but was costly to produce "back in the day".

The master blade has the Hammer Brand stamp and the "whittled down" pen is
stamped NEW YORK KNIFE CO WALDEN.

I've got one just like it although not in such good condition. Tried to find some info on EH Best but failed? It is a cool knife, I wonder when these guys were made

From what I have read E.H. Best was a industrial textile company based in Boston, MA. There are different knife companies that made these knives for them. Schrade, New York Knife, Dwight Devine & Sons, to name a few. Mine is a Schrade that still has an etch on the blade.

Does the Schrade have the spacer by the pen blade tang?

The Schrade Cut Co stamp should give us a clue as to the time line.

The pen blade does have a spacer. Here's the view of the inside & the back view. I just noticed mine says Knoxall Textiles instead of woolens & felts.

That's probably "THE BEST" swedge I've seen!!!

Where did you find the info. on the E.H. Best & CO.?

Here's 2 that I have- a 2 blade jack and a single blade coke bottle that my Dad thinks belonged to my great-grandfather.

Knives with a family connection are my favorites!

It's not in the best condition, the back handle is cracked at the center pin and the blade is spent. But you're right, I wouldn't give it up for anything.

I posted this one in the dogleg thread but figured I would add it her also. My first Salesman's knife form NY Knife!!
