Been awhile. I didn't read the description but I can tell you the correct year. 1951 saw the beginning of year with the old truncated handle. Murphy owned that design and had been in court with Gerber for some time. The decision was handed down in favor of Dave and Gerber had to stop using the design. It was probably in the third quarter and they started using Jet Black Bakelite in the new design. It was not excepted very well by the public so the last part of the year the miming was once again made from aluminum in the new pointy design. Rumor has it the reason for the temporary switch to Synthetic was the war effort and short supply on Aluminum along with the courts decision..
The Bakelite handle was used on a few of the patterns and is very RARE, this person got a good deal at $300.00. I am in the market for a as it was referred to Jet handled Shorty in pristine condition. I would be willing to pay what ever the market demanded short of being ridiculous. Maybe even as high as 5 or 10 dollars . Be on the lookout and watch carefully for the infamous Sandbar, he is currently in a shifting DNA crosshatch. Possibly with a giant toothed Alligator from Central Texas.

I found this tooth of one in the Moroccan/Sahara Desert years back

You have just exibited a plethora of knowledge here to fore unknown to exist within the cranium of Ten-nah-see-ans. You have made all researchers proud with your find. That is close to the one I was alluding to, its teeth though were known to be as long as a finger. His entire squatty body was around 5-6 feet in length. I like that: Mossasaurus, it has that certain ring.

I was cleaning out my parents home and found these.
My Aunt said she thinks they got them as a wedding gift back in early 50's

Can anyone help me ID them please? Year, value etc.. we are thinking about selling them.

My collecting stopped at third quarter 1951. The first of these Pointy handles start in last quarter 51 and continued from then. I suppose there are some clues to date with the mark but I have no idea.

You might closely check your documentation at the bottom of the pages. Sometimes there is a month and year noted. The only other idea I might have is check the address
for a zip code. The lack of one would indicate sometime before mid 1960's when codes became a requirement. You might also obtain a book that has been produced by a fellow up in Seattle area, his first name is Phil and right now his last slips my mind. Just remembered it is Roddenburg I think. Orvet may come along and tell you how to get the book.

I know this is an old thread, but new to me as I am recently interested in these as a set for my fiancé and I. She even likes the way these look and I love the Gerber Quality. I found this interesting tidbit in an eBay listing.
