All About Pocket Knives

Have been looking for a place to show this little fella. 2 7/8" closed. The blades are 98-100%. Both blades work off of same spring. The large blade is a bit lazy the small one is a snapper. They both lock open and closed with mechanism. That is what the Patent number is for. The patents date is Dec 1942. The color of cel is a deep burgandy red made to look like tortoise shell(who knows it could be real, I doubt that though.) These two photos should enlarge twice. I scanned at 350%. LT only has one of these listed in his book with Schrade over Walden over NY USA. It is on page 87. His has a nail file blade, this one has a small pen and a smaller pen. The finish on blades is darn close to 100%, The advertising etch on main pen is in great condition. There are no marks on secondary pen. This is the first of the small Schrade two blade switchers I have came upon.

The handles are celluloid, and the burgandy color is an uncommon color to find.

Here are a couple real oldies, both are pre 1891.

An Ivory Ward Perly & Co. quill knife and a Tortoise shell pen, cannot make out the maker.

This absolutely HAS to be a CASE TESTED "prototype" I mean after all how many of you have EVER seen such a wild combination of handle materials and a SAWblade combination tool such as this. I bet ol bRHETT59 or Murdle whatever his name is can make this one a REAL beauty and get some BIG bucks for it.

What do you know about that little bitty Kingston "rope" knife? It's probably better suited for cutting twine. Has a HECK of a snap to it though.

Well, it was made by Ulster, they stopped marking them that way around 1958. Some say it has a U.S. Military background. I do know that the U.S. military used a two blade version of this knife since WWI, Case, Schrade, Camillus and others made them for the Government. However, this one is smaller then the ones mentioned. They are well made and all the ones I have handled had excellent snap and were finished very well.

I have seen an Army/Air Force order for a single blade (sheepsfoot) TL-29 from around 1965, although it doesn't list the length (although since they refer to it as a TL-29 it's likely the standard length, not the short version). This was from Imperial (Kingston was a joint venture between Imperial and Ulster). I'll see if I can dig any more up. The Kingston stamp was used for some time after the war, at least into the late fifties/early sixties.

Here is an old Imperial, one with solid bolsters, not a shell handle.
It has pretty celluloid.
Imperial had good blades and nice celluloid.
