And then there's this one.

Listed on Ebay, but with a high reserve.

It's a bit scratched up.

Last I looked, reserve still not met.

I saved the photos for posterity.

Sometimes, things do work out.

That bone handled Terrier equal-end whittler posted above is now on its way to me.

The getleman that outbid me on the knife has graciously made a trade with me for a Robeson knife.

I'm going to repost the photos, which are from the original auction.

Very nice knife and I'm very pleased to have been offered the opportunity to acquire it.

Thanks for the thread Charlie, have always felt that Robeson/Terrier knives are some of the best made knives for it`s day and age and of course their jigging patterns and that strawberry bone handle ....well to me those are the prettiest bone handles ever made. Love seeing your photos and especially that English Jack. Just georgious!

That's a Terrier pattern that I don't think I've ever seen before.

I'm surprised to read that you haven't seen this pattern before. Glad you like it. it's 3 inches closed.

Pattern numbers on Terrier knives were reversed, so the number is 722294,

"7"= pearl, "2"= two blades, "2"= nickel-silver bolsters and brass liners, "294"= handle die shape.

And I do not have a Robeson 294 pattern jack, either.

I'm going to take a look in David Clark's repro Robeson catalog..not there as a Robeson. The catalog does not show any Terrier folders.

I hope some evidence of it shows up some where.

Just received this 3 1/8" swell-center, equal end pen with pearl handles, nice full, blades, but a few spiders here and there.

Both master spear and pen are marked, TERRIER / CUTLERY/ ROCHESTER, N.Y.

There is a dog's head logo on the back of the master and the pattern number 305 / 722 on the back of the pen.

As I've explained previously, Robeson reversed the two groups of three digits in their pattern number on their Terrier knives, so this pattern with a Robeson stamp would be marked 722305.

Remember, Robeson only produced Terrier knives from 1910 to 1916, so this little knife is a hundred years old.

I was alerted to the Ebay auction for this knife by a fellow AAPK member, to whom I will be forever grateful.

I find it interesting that a choil was not cut into either blade.

I have seen that on a couple of other older Robesons.

I don't know when or how that process occurs in the manufacture of a knife, but it got omitted on this one.

Now, do I leave it as is or do I cut a choil into the blades?

Great find, Charlie, lovely knife! Wondering about cutting choils into the blades is a joke, right? I have a couple of old Case's, still with the factory edge, that never had choils cut into them. Steve Pfeifer said that happens occasionally.

He's a stickler for detail Dan.

My tongue-in-cheek question about putting choils on the blades was prompted by an exchange I had with Bernard Levine at The Oregon Knife Show once, when I showed him a beautiful, mint, circa-1930's Robeson knife. Robeson brown bone, Robeson tang stamps, blade etch, etc.

He turned it over in his hands, opened and closed the blades, handed it back to me and said, "Fake. No knife would have ever left the Robeson factory without choils on the blades."

So, it's been a running joke of mine since.

Here's a little Terrier I picked up recently. What a nice knife.
No Terrier head stamp on pile side tangs. 3 5/16"

That's a nice old jack.

I saw a similar one on Ebay recently. Could that be it?
