thanks for the nice comments. Here is another scarce old knife box, by a rather famous knife co.

Russell made wonderful knives, and deserved their reputation. They made other folders besides Barlows as well!
I hope it's O.K. to stick a couple in here next to the box they might have been shipped in!!??

Upnorth, very nice Russell knives!! I think this is a very fitting place to show them. Any pattern other than a barlow is not too common to find in a Russell folding knife. The box originally held 1/2 doz. of #350 pattern knives. If anybody out there has an old catalog with the russell pattern numbers I would be interested to know what kind of knives it originally held. Seems to me I seen some russell patterns in some old books I have, but will have to look through them to see I can find anything. Anyone else have any old knife boxes?? If so please post them to this thread. This will make a very nice reference for future use.

Great to see the old boxes! It's unusual to see just one nice old one, let alone all the nice ones shown here.

Thats some excellant bone on the Russel Upnorth! Can you imagine finding a box with a half dozen of those!

Fantastic boxes M.B.! Mighty rare as well, you don't see many of the really old ones around anymore, especially something like a Southington box .

Eric,Thanks, your right you do not see many old knife company boxes these days. Here are some more old boxes. A rare Passaic Knife Co., and a scarce Case knife box. As well as a Camillus and Keen Kutter. M.B.

What a collection!

Well I don't have many, but I did just get this nice little NYK box that just happened to come with a knife! A nice litle birds eye that I believe was original to the box according to the Worthington print (first time I've seen that on a NYK box). 3 1/4", both blades have half stops, and apparently unused.

Eric, Nice find! The knife and the box Nice to see the agents name on the box as well. In an earlier post there is another N.Y. box with the agents name on the bottom.

Just a side note about the Union Box. The HOBO knife as it is called, some say that is incorrect but I won't fight that battle right now, was invented by W. R. Brown, grandson of Job Case. Brown patented this while still living in Tidioute PA and co-owned Union Cutlery at that time. It seems that one could conceivablly find it stamped Tidioute, although I have yet to see it. The combination of knife, fork and spoon, isn't the invention, as that had been done before. The invention was the slots that held them together and allowed for disassembly of the unit. In the records he referred to a "take apart knife". Interesting to me, but maybe not to you guys

Nice boxes and thanks for the info David. Fran you can get ready to put more blame on me because I am getting in the mail a bunch of boxes and will be listing them in my store. I also have some more that I bought for my collection that I need to post. I will try and get them on later this week.
