Here they are in their first truck ride.

That is a heck of a good looking litter, Colonel! I like your new barn tenant too. Looks like he has already had one rodent for dinner.

Thanks!

I hope he’s eating good. With all the feed down there I have a glut of mice.

I had my kayak out on an oxbow lake this morning. Beautiful day, and the bream were biting a little. But the highlight of the trip came when a pair of Barred Owls started talking to each other. If you have never heard a Barred Owl then it is hard to convey the effect of the calls. I still recall the first time I ever head one ... I was about six years old and drifting fishing a river with my father. He told me it was an owl hooting, but I did not really believe him. I was convinced that it was a madman out in the swamp and my father was just mistaken!

Today, one of the owls was quite close to me, and as I fished my way in his direction the calls stopped but I was able to spot the owl in a gum tree that leaned out over the water. He sat around long enough for me to get a few photos.

We live on the edge of a wilderness area and the owls hoot around here all the time, but I very seldom get a good look at them. The pine trees around here all approach a hundred feet or more in height.

Sometimes, I call back to them, but they are too smart to be fooled.

Great owl pics.

Here’s another bird pic for today.

We raised a bunch of meat chickens and had the processed. Four of thes are going on the grill to smoke with all manner of seasoning, butter, carrots, new taters, onion, corn, maters, and apples.

And then for desert some sliced hog shoulder.

Y’all come!

Did not get any super pictures of this Grizzly in Grand Teton National park but I am pretty proud of these. It was about mid 30's and snow showers but this old gal was intent on putting on body fat. She is an old bear but had a cub. Unfortunately it had been run over earlier in the year. Amazing to just watch her. We were about 125 yards away.

Nice shots, doglegg.
125 yards is about 1/2 a mile too close for me!

Steve, I made sure that there were slower people there just in case. Thanks for all your comments.

Had my grandson out in the backyard making pointy sticks.
This is only the second time we've been out with the knives. He'll be 8 in a couple of weeks.

Good for you Steve. You are imprinting on that young man. Some day when his grand kids come along he will know how to be a grandpa from times like this. ::tu:: ::tu::

Great Grizzly pictures Dogleg - I've never been close to one - awesome animal.

Steve, looks like good fun for your grandson. I remember just sitting down whittling away on something when I was a boy, no purpose except for the sheer joy of doing it. OH
