Ken, count again, there is the same amount in each picture, 7 or 8 ain't the number.

Larry, there are 9 in each picture.

I did count 9 in the second.
Had to go back and check the first pic. Only after I counted the legs and divided by 4 did I see the 9!!

Wish my web a/v skills were up to par.
I would have gotten some audio of the wip-poor-wills last night.
Three that I could distinguish. One in particular was LOUD !

Same here Chris, only in my case it's owls. We have two heavily wooded creeks that run across the ranch, and there are several owls that call back and forth almost every evening. They are both great horned owls and hoot owls. Each has a distinctive call. When the grandkids are visiting us they like to imitate them (or at least they try)

You fellows are reminding of what I am missing! I live on the edge of a city and there are no owls in my area. I have lived much closer to the middle of the city in the past and I would hear owls all the time, but for some reason they do not frequent my area. Not for lack of natural habitat - there is plenty around my home.
I grew up in the country where Whip-poor-wills (actually Chuck-wills-widows in my area) were abundant: we all loved hearing the calls at dusk. None of those within hearing distance of my current house, either. There were a pair of Great horned owls that used to sit in the pines close to our home and call at dusk. When I was a kid I just took that as normal and did not have a clue just how special it was. These days I would be super excited to see and hear a pair of owls like that!

You are a fortunate man Ken, I have seen a little screech owl in a state park near my house but not an everyday occurrence.

Lots of work, and some fun too going on here at the farm. We had another litter of English Shepherd pups the other day. This is her second litter, had ten and all still living. Mostly Black and Tan which is what we like. If they’re half as good as their momma they’ll be outstanding.
Today after mowing the two oldest boys and I built and gate for a little fence redo we’re doing. Here’s the middle boy laying down on the job, putting a nut on a bolt, and the almost finished project.
Later, the oldest boy (who’ll be 13 tomorrow, man I’m getting old) and I had to run to TSC. I picked up a yellow handles CASE sod buster jr. and when we got to the truck I handed it to him for his birthday. He was excited!
Well the pics got out of order, but y’all get the idea.

A Happy Birthday to the young man. Be careful with the knife and don't carry it to school with you.
Just thinkin' but that might not be the problem in Kentucky that it is in Texas. I think in most school districts around here to carry a knife to school is almost a guaranteed suspension.
Anyway, Happy Birthday and many more to you.

The first knife I gave to my oldest grandson came with the admonishment "Don't take it to school". Wasted my breath on that one.

In some schools it’s a big deal, mostly the big city schools. But not in most of them. Everybody is packing a “folding pencil sharpener” or two where I teach, admin, teachers, and students.
For some reason he’s all excited about being 13, lol. I just wonder where the time went!

Just five more years and he'll be ready to fly the nest. It will seem like forever to him but not to mom and dad.

Hey Wade, just think, 3 more years and it's a drivers license, then your truck insurance probably goes up.
Tell the young man, Happy Birthday and take special care of the "yeller soddie"!

I bet you are right. I remember that one of the best things about having a small child was that I could have fun playing and everyone just thought
What a good dad! instead of
What a freak!
