Keeping It Super Simple with that CRKT, Joe

Wharncliffe minimalism at its finest
So, this is kind of funny.....I decided to close out WW this week by showing my Case Swayback family (minus one that's stuck in transit somewhere in VA due to the heavy snowfall). I wanted to arrange them into a pinwheel design but when I looked at the photo, I noticed I had inadvertently created a different and possibly offensive or disturbing symbol

Once I saw it, I could not unsee it

Crazy, but believe me, the arrangement is supposed to represent a pinwheel and nothing more
Great pinwheel photo arrangement 'Q' !

Not offensive at all!

Kevin - that Northwoods is a tough looking knife.
Joe - that CRKT is a neat little knife. Very clean lines!
Q - nice set of photos to end the day. And it would never occur to me to equate your photo with any offensive symbol.

Here are some "safer", potentially less controversial photos of my little Swayback family to end up on
Fantastic shots of your beautiful Swayback family and a great way to close out Wharncliffe Wednesday, Q!
Really love that Stag, Mammoth, Deep Canyon Bone.... Heck, I love'em all!

Great displays everyone - especially like the assortment of swaybacks Q ... the single blade versions are so nice
Mahalo, John

I agree, the single blade "Gent" is my favorite, too. Great little knife

Mahalo, Kevin

If you can stand its small size, the Case 117 is a pretty cool little Wharnie....kind of like the little brother to the GEC 47

Mahalo Floyd, Tony & Mel
I appreciate the comments and reassurance. Full disclosure: it was actually my wife who noticed the "accidental swastika" in my Swayback pinwheel. When she saw my photo she said, "So, is that supposed to be some kind of fancy Nazi symbol or something"

Until she said that, I hadn't realized there was even any similarity.

But, I thought I'd better add my disclaimer just in case she wasn't the only one to make that connection....you never know what might "trigger" some folks these days

Great show everyone!
You know how much I love the Phoenix Jack's, Q! And you definitely have three of the best!
Very Cool McAlevy custom, C-Man!
Mel, I thought you said you were running low on Wharnies a few weeks ago, then you bust out this trio of Beauties.
I'll go ahead and add three more 5107Ws to keep things moving.

Good WW showing, guys

Got some nice variety this week with cman62's custom fixer and Mel's Whittler trifecta (love that FightN Rooster shadow pattern

) and of course Kevin's always impressive Case Seahorse & 5107W offerings, well done!
Serendipitously, this one arrived today just in time to sneak in under the wire for WW last call.
2011 Case TB62117 Swayback Jack Seafoam Green Jigged Bone
Looks like I'm going to have to reconfigure my Swayback "Swastika" Pinwheel to accommodate this newest addition (maybe it will magically resemble a pentagram just to cover all the bases

)

I agree we had a good showing this week. Actually, I do not think there has ever been a thread like this that went for so many weeks without missing a single week. I have lost count of just how many weeks. I guess there is just a lot of Wharncliffe love here!
I really am out of Wharncliffes. But rather than drop out of the Wednesday showing I will try some family photos, or maybe just figure that after all these weeks no one is going to recall just what has been previously posted.

Eventually, I will have to resort to posting old archive photos of Wharnies I once owned but have sold....possibly sooner than I thought

I like your idea of posting family group shots, too, Mel

Anything we can do to keep the thread alive works for me....I've really come to look forward to getting a regular weekly Wharncliffe "fix" every Wednesday
I know there are members who have Wharnies but haven't posted them in this thread. Hopefully they'll feel inclined to remedy that situation if the thread continues to show up in the new posts every week.
It would also be nice if the vintage collectors would post more of their oldies....especially the knives with Wharncliffe frames that have clip blades. That would be very helpful for educational purposes in showing that the term "Wharncliffe" can refer to more than just a specific blade type. I think I would have really appreciated understanding that when I was a new collector.....certainly would have eliminated some confusion. After all, isn't education and sharing information what we're all about here on AAPK

That old knife is a really elegant example of a Wharncliffe Whittler.

a Steel Warrior.
More of a Sheepsfoot on that Steel Warrior, IMO, Mel, but I know you already knew that

Anyway, the Sheepsfoot and Lambfoot are definitely close relatives of the Wharncliffe.....we'll call it "Wharncliffe adjacent" which is close enough for government work, as our recently departed AAPK brother, jerryd, used to say....so, it's all good and all in the family

Very colorful impala jigged handle on that one too
Prior to the Case 1117 Swayback obsession, The Monkey was fixated on Case 028 Teardrops.....especially the single Wharncliffe blade 1028W version which seems to be somewhat less common than the regular 028 with what is sometimes called a "modified Wharncliffe" blade, but looks to me like a spear or long pen blade.
Don't know if it was intentional, and if so, why

but for some reason most (possibly all) of the Case Teardrops with
green handles have the Wharncliffe blade (028W).
Top to bottom:
Bright Green Smooth Bone
Green Sparkle Kirinite
Curley Green Oak
Bermuda Green Ivy

Interesting observation, Q! I've never noticed it before, but it does seem that a lot of the greens have the Wharncliffe blade.
You piqued my curiosity on this subject, so I did a search and found there are several with the Spear blade as well. While doing this search, I also found that they did more of this pattern in green than I would have ever imagined.
Here are my only two 028Ws.

Nice stuff from the archives, Q.
