Yes that’s the hardware distributor (actually it’s Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Company) but not the brand name on this knife. Similar to the KeenKutter brand at Shapleigh, this brand was used by HSB&Co. on tools as well as knives. So you’re close, but no cigar.

True value knife brand

Nope. I think there are only about 4 or 5 choices but OVB isn’t the right one, nor is True Value. This brand name was used on tools, sporting goods, firearms, etc. It’s the name of another hardware firm that HSB&Co. acquired. The principal owner of that company became an officer of HSB&Co. The brand is his name, but spelled backwards.

I can’t give any more hints, save for spelling it out.

If you search online for “Rev-o-noc” you can find info about skates, rifles, shotguns, hand tools, and other items having the Rev-o-noc brand name, in addition to knives. Not sure if the brand name preceded the acquisition of Conover’s company and was carried forward by HSB, or if they created it after the acquisition.

Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Company became known as TrueValue in 1960. Prior to that name change TrueValue was one of the HSB trade names.

My camera battery is stone cold dead. Just plugged it in and will post one as soon as there is enough juice in the battery.

This one is fairly obscure, I believe? Trademark used by a hardware company circa 1939. Sturdy, but fairly cheaply made. Plastic handles and bolsters stamped out of the liners.

Colonial ?

Reminds me of some Syracuse knives I have, but I don't think that's the right answer. However, I'm going with it.

Handle covers appear similar to a knife I have that is stamped LACLEDE, which IIRC was a house brand of E.C. Simmons, before they were acquired by Shapleigh.

Since you said it’s a hardware company brand, I’m going with LACLEDE.

Ken, , good guess. It is an E.C. Simmons house brand, but not LACLEDE. Goins lists quite a few fairly obsure names as house brands of E.C. Simmons. I believe that the knife I posted is one of the most obscure ones. It is not included in the listing in Goins under Simmons, but is listed as a Simmons brand under its own name. This may not have been a fair one to post, I have never seen another example posted anywhere. Maybe Ray, knife7knut has a couple?

I don’t think Goins’ has LACLEDE listed either. Whatever it is, if anybody else has one (or more) it’s Ray. Goins’ says American Ace was a trademark owned by Simmons. I’ll take a long shot on that.

Nope, not American Ace or Chipaway. Ken, your are correct, I just looked and Goins does not list LACLEDE either.
If no one gets this by tomorrow, maybe I should reveal it and post another knife??
