All About Pocket Knives

The 2010 Remington Boy Scout knife came back from Bear & Sons today. It's better. Most of the sharp edges are gone and they did a nice job of it. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear but at least you can line it with suede and shave off the hair. I think, without completely re-engineering it, they did everything they could to remedy the problems I had with the knife and I appreciate that. They sent a Bear & Son's Cutlery hat along with it. Nice hat.

I recall Miller Bros sent me a PM asking if I thought a thread on Scout Knives would get any response. I told him it might get a few. Here we are 33 pages later, still going strong.

Let's just chalk it up as one of the greatest threads ever on here! When you get this in depth on a particular knife it gets me to readin and that's always GOODER!

In all honesty guys, I am not a Scout Knife collector or even close to it but I have gone thru all the pages looking at photos and reading many of the comments. I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I never knew how much interest there was and I have seen a lot of knives here that I had not seen before.
I am going to post a couple of photos of the only official one I own for two reasons. One is that I am curious to know what a realistic value might be and the second reason is that I haven't seen one like it. It is a Kingston and I am told it was made for only one year, 1947 and it might have been 1946, I can't remember which for sure.
As you can tell from the photo, it is made exactly like the stainless military knives and I suspect this was military surplus. The blade is clearly but faintly etched with the logo, etc.
I got this knife in a box of 'stuff' I got from an elderly gentleman and thinking it to be just another of the military patterns, I put it into a bargain box with a $15 price tag. Some time later I noticed that something was etched on the big spear blade. It turned out to be an official scout knife so needless to say I rescued it from the bargain box.
If anyone has any idea as to a realistic value I would appreciate the input. I will add that it has never been sharpened, or if it has, it was very minor. Same for use, minimal to none. It has a nice even patina with minor staining.

Can you show the tang stamp? Or tell me what is stamped on it.

The tang is stamped USA. The can opener is stamped CAN OPENER (over) PAT. PEND. and the bail is stamped KINGSTON. No other stampings that I can see.

I looks to me like surplus scout knife blades from Ulster were used to make this utility knife.

Kingston knives like that were made between 1945 till 1947. It would be late war time or a few years after. The large USA stamp is generally considered a stamp supplied to the U.S Army. Either this was a knife supplied to the Gov`t on contract, or it was assembled from various left over parts to be sold to the general public after the war.

This is the first one of these I have seen with the scout etch on the master blade.

I saw one like yours (I think) sell on ebay a few months ago and if my memory hasn't failed me it brought about $135 in like new condition.

Thanks MillerB! This is actually a KAMP KING Jr., while looking through the 1952 catalog, I noticed Imperial made 2 different blade configurations. The regular KK is a 4 blade, the 4th blade being a punch.

I purchased one of the 2010 jamboree knives from Bear and Son. It is distinctly uninspiring, but a step up or 2, from the old Imperials, etc. It is American. Have you all checked out the "Chinese scouts" thread in general discussion? There is a link there to a petition you may be interested in.
