Dan...

it might be starting to look like you may have been sucked into

"The Cult of the #72"
Dan In MI wrote: ↑Mon Aug 14, 2023 3:15 am
Most definitely...just wish I had better luck finding good ones on the cheap!
...

.....
This may not be a #72, but... it's purdy close!

I hope the price on the box it came with doesn't give you sticker shock

... does that fit a little closer to your budget?

Dan, you and me both! ...

Looking at some of these prices lately, (GEC, Benchmade, ZT... etc...etc...) the only guy around here that can afford a decent pocketknife on a regular basis is this guy....

To answer your question Theo, yes that beautiful buffalo horn is indeed a Bulldog.
A few points: don't buy one with celluloid scales; try to find a model you like that is in unused condition; some ebay sellers are asking unjustified high prices since German BDs are no longer made. I suggest you avoid any BD from China.

Q.S. have you had any BDs with celluloid scales break down on you? I just posted about the collection I looked at and the off gassing disaster that took place.

T-dog. I never bought a BD with celluloid scales. I only ever bought one Case with celluloid and which in fact did out gas.

Interesting factoid, TOPDOG. I'm in the guitar business, and it's pretty well known that a lot of guitar binding and pickguards that were made in the 40's 50's and 60's from celluloid had one thing in common. It came from a certain supplier in the New York area. Funny thing is, there were an awful lot of knife makers in the same area of the Northeast. Coincidence maybe? I'm guessing a lot of knife handle material came from the same supplier.

A page of beauties everyone. Very fun to scroll through.
Couple of old Schrade's with me today. The Stockman is a Walden, the bare head jack a Cut co. The Barehead looks about like it has original blades and edge. I stropped it very lightly and it shaves hair easily. Loooooooooooooooove the old Schrade steel. Someone years ago said it was the best carbon steel out there. I didn't know what they meant until I picked one up. Now I get it big time.

Thanks for the comments Kim, Ike, and doglegg.
Phil, that is Kokopelli. I lived in southern Arizona for a few years near the Cochise stronghold and became acquainted with him. That is with Kokopelli, not Cochise.
