That's pretty cool! My how times have changed in English firearms. Reminded me of the Chicago Palm Pistol. I see these at auction often, always priced out of my price range. Not my pictures.

I think by looking at it that it was something in the 45 caliber range. While I was looking at it I had the thought of if I had to use it, and the attacker was approximately the same height as me, the point of impact would be about 2-3 inches below the belly button. If the attacker was taller than me, then I will let you imaging and cringe at where the point of impact would be.

I have seen photos of these over the years but did not know they were called Chicago PPs. Of course I have long known about the Chicago Typewriter, i.e. the Tommy gun.

Not near as cool as what y’all are showing, but some folks who live close to my parents are moving back to San Diego (I can’t imagine!) and selling some of their stuff.

I bought this Marlin 881 22lr. It came with a hard case too. It ain’t the prettiest, but for $100 it’ll be good to tote around in the field.

Nice score Wade! $100 for a .22 Marlin is a great deal. I'd have grabbed it in a heartbeat!

100 bucks well spent I shoot a model 25 bolt ,fun and accurate.

$100 isn't a high price for that rifle at all.

Thanks guys. I have a soft spot for old 22’s, and any Marlin. The boys and I like to shoot them out in the field. They’ll grab a couple a piece and mix and match. lol. They sure know how to burn powder!

Wade, I had one just like it that I won in a poker game over 50 years ago (I know because along with the rifle I got the guy’s driver’s license, which I used as a fake ID - I wasn’t 21 years old yet at the time). If it’s like the one I had you’ll not find a more accurate shooter. I loaned it to my sister years ago to shoot some pesky squirrels and she still has it.

Your boys will get a lot of good use out of it.

Thanks Ken. I have a Marlin 89 (detachable magazine) from the 30’s that’s a real tack driver. That is on days that I can see the itty bitty front sight! I think this one will be too. It sounds like your sister is getting your money’s worth out of that old 22!

Oops! Now that you mention it and I looked at yours again, mine had a detachable box magazine. So it wasn’t the same model after all. Next time I’m at my sister’s place I’ll have to look at it again. Either way it’s hard to beat those Marlin bolt actions for accuracy.

100 bucks for a .22 marlin is a steal of a deal, you done good ole' boy . Boy would my dad be jealous if he found out, he's gone .22 crazy!

I have a 781 in 22lr and it's a tack driver.

Wade, if your Marlin is as accurate as this one (a 22 WMR) you will be real happy. I inherited this one about seven years ago - it was still in the box and unshot (receipt showed my buddy had bought it in 1987). I had never owned a 22 WMR before and decided to scope it (I’ve long since lost my ability to see the little iron sights), the rifle is amazingly accurate (like all old Marlins I‘ve shot). At the time I got the rifle 22 WMR was hard to find but I finally bought some CCI 30 grain varmint loads and was amazed at the accuracy. Enjoy your rifle! OH

Thanks guys. I’m a bit of a Marlin nut myself. I cleaned it up tonight as it was filthy and it shined up pretty good.

OH I had a Marlin 22WMR one and sold it. I’ve regretted it ever since. I need to rectify that.

Looks like a great buy Wade, a hundred for a good 22 all day long is a fine buy. Being a Marlin is even better.

I’ve carried a 9mm forever as my primary concealed weapon and I’m starting to explore moving to .45 ACP for greater stopping power. My current 9mm’s are a Sig Sauer P365 SAS and a Kimber Micro 9 CDP LG and I couldn’t be happier with the reliability of both.

My .45 ACP short list includes:
1. Sig Sauer P250
2. M&P 45 Shield M2.0 Thumb Safety
3. Walther Arms PPQ M2
4. Glock 30S
5. Beretta Px4 Storm Full Size Type F Model JXF5F25
6. Colt Defender
7. Kimber Super Carry Ultra HD

Interesting that that my current 9mm carry manufacturers are the least and most expensive on my .45 ACP list. So what say you, with no restrictions other than reliability, which way would you lean? THANKS! Tom

I like 45s and I have a couple...
But for carry I like my Kimber Ultra Carry in 40 cal..... It is light enough so it is not too annoying while carrying and it is reputed to have really good stopping power.
I also have a M&P in 40, it's OK but I like the Kimber better.....

If you are dead set on a 45...... I vote for the Glock.
I LIKE the fact that Glocks don't have an external safety. You pull it and it's ready.

I have a 9mm and 380 Glock for CONCEALED carry.

NOTE....
My son was taking a class with a friend. His friend drew his Glock with his finger inside the trigger guard. LUCKILY... it went off after he cleared the holster and he shot the dirt about 2 feet in front of his foot.
Needless to say.... he got an ear-full from the instructor.

My $.02

Tom, I switched from 9mm to .45 for concealed carry several years ago and would not go back. Mine is an M&P Shield. I recommend it highly. I find it very easily concealed, either IWB, or OWB with an untucked shirt or vest. You’ll almost forget it’s there. Also easily carried inside a boot. It’s the earlier model, no safety other than the built-in non-optional trigger safety. So a good holster with trigger guard is imperative. The ergonomics of the pistol combined with the .45 ACP ballistics make it a dream to shoot - better than the 9mm for me at least. It’s not a target pistol and it wasn’t designed to be one, but it’s pretty accurate - most of my practice with it is at 15 yards or less. I’ve thought about upgrading to the Shield 2.0 but I’m happy with what I have so haven’t seriously looked into it.

I recommend making a trip to a range that rents what you’re interested in, and try out several to see what suits you best. (Glock makes great pistols but personally I can’t hit the proverbial broad side of a barn with a Glock. Not a knock against a Glock, just an example why you should try out the various options before you lay down cash for any of them). Of course the other main consideration for concealed carry is comfort. If it’s too heavy, too big, uncomfortable, you probably won’t carry it. Since you’ve been carrying previously you know that already.

And a great idea to find a place to rent a pistol before buying!

The M&P Shield has developed a fine reputation. In large part, this is due to a fine trigger. Said to have an even better trigger is the hard to come by Ruger (in.45) S series, RS.45.

People like what they like. Some do not like an external safety. I do, even on striker fired pistols. I've just seen too many accidental discharges even with safety trigger blades. Well trained, intelligent people, can still have mishaps. And as is well understood, under the shock of a true defensive fight motor skills will fall apart for many, probably most.

My impression is that, with just one or two exceptions, every major manufacturer turns out decent firearms, reliable and reasonably accurate. Searching for the one that is just right is, for me, one of life's pleasures.

I have ALWAYS wanted me one of those!!!!!!
(a reproduction.... not an antique)
I even started making a plan so I could make one.... BUT..... I think I remember seeing that cane guns are specifically mentioned as being a sick bird (ill-eagle) according to the ATF....

Please prove me wrong. I am getting more decrepit and I sure would like a cane (gun) to help me get along.
