Scott, who made the knife with the birds head handle? I can't make it out. That was/is a pretty decent knife. It's a slicer. Would make a great fillet knife if it has some flex. I'll bet it does.

Made a quick stop into an antique store today while on the road. Got some really great bargains. Most of these were $3 or $5. The exceptions were the pruner and TL-29, which were $1 each.


For me, the prize was this one, a Colonial Hunter. I paid $20 for it. From what I have seen, they only used solid bolsters on the older ones. I have never seen a Colonial in this pattern. The cell is shrinking, but not gassing. The covers appear to be pinned with aluminum pins, weird.


The pruner is a Russell. It has issues, but is cool for $1. I had found some others, but ran out of cash so I left with what I got.

Agreed...there is one Imperial that is gassing a bit, so I'm going to have to do something with it

Great finds Glen If that is an Imperial (on left, greenish) I have a similar one and really love it.

I didn't do as well in the price department yesterday, but did find some stuff at the fleas market that I had to go home with.

An old tool kit (each tang is stamped Herder, PHILA PA on one side, and ED Wusthof Solingen Germany on the other side), a Hammer Brand camp knife, an IXL George Wostenholm Sheffield pen, and a little mystery knife that looks well made despite the crack...Demuth?

I'm looking forward to cleaning this stuff up a bit and taking better pictures.

Finally was able to take some decent photo's; found these two at Jim's Pawn shop last Thursday, both unused. The Case (1995) had it's original box, the Schrade was in the plastic liner sleeve, but no package. Nice Colonial Hunter Glenn, and nice tool kit Lawrence! It never ceases to amaze me just how much "stuff" is floating around out there for the picking. OH

Great scores everyone! I especially like that curved stamp Colonial and the Wusthof tool kit. Glenn: those cel handles are usually pretty stable;I have several with that particular material including a folding hunter like that only it has a cleaver(!)as a secondary blade.The tool kits are always a great collector piece although if any items are missing it is difficult to find replacements that fit exactly.
My score today was something I've been working on for awhile:A 3 dot Case 6165-L(lockback)folding hunter as new(no box);an EIG Cutlery non-auto stiletto(sadly it has plastic rather than horn scales)in decent shape and a Bonsa Springer with a nice full blade(some rust in the process of being cleaned)and jigged composition handles with one small piece missing from the pile side center rivet.Nice and tight(a bit TOO tight for opening properly)and blade sits low with very little side play.Soaking in PB Blaster right now to hopefully loosen it up a bit.A neat trick to soak just the pivot rivet is to use a rattle can plastic lid and fill the small inside center cap with the penetrant and lean the knife against the edge.That way the handles arent exposed to the solvent.

Stopped by a gunshop after lunch today to grab a sling before I went back to the woods - they had found some more old knives in their stockroom - got this SAK Electrician, still in the box. Quick picture taken on my trucks tailgate - I'll get a better one another day. The ALOX SAK's have good snap. OH
