The way I do the math, one .45 ACP is better than two .22 mags. It's nothing more than a gimmick.

Agree with that and besides that it doesn't look to pocket friendly.

This looks like a Masters Thesis for an engineering degree that somebody got capitalized and manufactured. I personally wouldn’t protect my life or any property with such a weapon but I’ll bet it’s a hoot to fire at the range.

I have some .38Sp Remington Multiball rounds (loaded with 2 round ball) in the closet.
Are they good for SD from a 4"S&W10 ?

Up close and personal they'd be just ok. Years ago I experimented with using 2 cast 70 grain wadcutters in a .38 Special case over a forgotten charge of Bullseye. At 10 yards they looked like a shotgun pattern. I was shooting them out of a 3 in. .38 Special. Today I prefer a soft swaged 158 gr. hollowpoint.

I can sort of see some logic to the two small vs one big projectile science. Over-penetration is a big buzzword in self-defense these days. So, using two 22 Mags let's you put more impact energy at the target, but each projectile has less chance of over-penetration than a .38 or 9mm. HOWEVER, I also suspect a double-tap from a conventional pistol would essentially do the same thing. That heavy two-fingered trigger just looks wrong. In my uneducated opinion that is completely counter to accurate shooting.

I would think that the 22WMR, which was developed as a rifle round, would suffer terribly being used in a barrel of 1 1/4". The muzzle flash would be tremendous. When you look at ammo in the Hornady catalog, they do offer a 22WMR Critical Defense load for derringers and short barrel revolvers that they advertise as a 45 gr. FTX bullet at 1000 fps from a 1 7/8" vented barrel. So if you consider 2 of those simultaneously fired, it would amount to 90 grs of projectile at 1000 fps. This is identical to a .380 auto load that they market, 90gr @ 1000 fps. I don't, but many people think that the 380 is an adequate defense load. I think the trigger pull factor, which requires 2 fingers is not a reasonable thing either. Still I would be interested in test firing one to see what the "spread" would be from the two bullets at close range.

I think many shooters would agree with you that we really haven't *needed* a new pistol design since 1911 (9mm fans might say 1908!) - but we're humans, and tinker with perfection is what we do...

Yep! I admit to being biased but it's hard to improve on the 1911. If I were to go 9MM it would be with a High Power! John Browning was a genius!

I would not even consider anything less than 9 mm. for a defense round. Anybody whom you shoot with something less powerful will probably still get to you before they die. And there are plenty of 9 mm. pistols and .38 SPCL/.357 MAG. little revolvers which are very concealable. I think that OP "gun" is a dangerous joke. Just my opinion, of course.

Indeed! Oddly, as a confirmed collector of all sorts of rubbish, including guns and knives, I have toyed with the idea of scoring a S&W Perfected. Not much good for anything, but very cool. Anyone here have one?

Ahhhh 1911! There’s only two handguns imo that have ever hit so close to the mark of perfection. The 1911 and S&W K frame revolvers, if they can be improved I don’t know how.

Over the years I've read a considerable number of gun writers who maintain the Hi-Power is an improved design over the .45. Setting aside the issue of calibers, I can offer no opinion as I am not mechanically inclined. But I do love the Hi-Power.
Concerning accuracy, my S&W K frame, M14 Target Master with 6" barrel is easily the most accurate revolver I've encountered. In the world of semi-autos, the H&K P7 enabled me to shoot with an inexplicable degree of accuracy (in my prime) getting 3 and 4 hits on top of each other. This was so startling I laughed out loud when it occurred. Today my shooting is more somber.
I've shown these before but here is the S&W and the H&K. The latter, depending on condition, is selling for 2 to over 3k.

You may also notice that the trigger is operated by two fingers, and I gave it a pull and I can see why. It takes two fingers to fire it. Definitely has a heavy pull. The frame is polymer, and the barrel length is 1.25", yes one and one quarter inches! It would have as much bark as it would have bite. It is obviously intended for concealed carry for personal protection. Imagine firing TWO 22 magnum rounds at an attacker simultaneously. It could be loaded with JHP rounds, or FMJ rounds, or even one of each alternating. Kind of a wild idea that someone came up with. It is called the "Thunderstruck" and runs a shade over $400.
Eventually there will be a UTube review on it and it should be interesting. Don't think I'd carry it!!!

The double barrel 22 mag doesn't sound like the CCW I want, so I'll just stay with my Taurus TH9 as my handgun of choice.

IIRC, the High-Power was designed by John Browning for the French because their requirements couldn't be met with a .45 and he had already sold all the rights to the 1911 design to Colt, so he had to use a fresh design. If that is true, then it would be natural to assume that Browning designed "improvements" that he couldn't make to the 1911 into the High-Power.
I don't have enough experience (or skill!) with either pistol to have any opinion on "better". Personally, I prefer the 1911, primarily because in the times I have shot one, I shot it better than any of the 9mm wonderguns I have shot. I think it has something to do with the recoil of the 1911 feeling more comfortable to me than the 9mm. The .45 always seems like more of a hard THUD, while the 9mm always seems like more of a sharp WHACK. I like THUD better than WHACK...

If I remember correctly Browning died before the High Power design was completed and a Frenchman finished it's development. That being said as good a gun as the 1911 is, the High Power is probably the most prolific of the two because militaries all over the world adopted it as their service weapon. Canada, Germany, China, the Isralies are a few that I can think of right now.
Quick Steel, that Smith M14 is FAMOUS for it's accuracy! You have a fine one there! I've always wanted to shoot a P7...but they are way out of my league now!

I've had several Marlins and also the economy model, the Glenfield, they had a hard wood stock and a short magazine tube and appeared to be the same as the 336 in every other way. I liked the side ejection because of the scope being over the bore as compared to the Win. 94. All my Marlins have found other homes years ago but they sure didn't leave a bad taste in my mouth. I just remembered I had a Marlin 27 once upon a time, it was a pump action in 25/20.
Derek, looks as if you have keep your Marlin well protected over the years.
Are the wildfires close to your part of the world? Sad to read of so many arsonists being involved in this catastrophe. Pray that you are not in the path of these fires.

I've shot and owned a lot of different guns over the years and the hand gun I've been most impressed with is the Glock line. Now let me have if from the hater's.
