All About Pocket Knives

After I checked the sharpness, I thought ....this might make for a good post in the knife photography thread....

PS - It's actually not in the position I took the pic. The point is actually supposed to be facing the SE corner.

Hey Scott - nice and when you click on photo the knife does point to the SE ... Is that honing oil and hair on the blade?

Those are some good photos, Scott, ROOFSC, Terry and all. Regarding the best place for photos, I really like the slanting rays of the afternoon sun. My room over the garage faces west, and some of my favorite photos have been taken there just before sunset. I also like old wood as a background, and some of my photos are on a cedar gardening bench.

It is hair and water sir.

You can tell when I've been sharpening knives.........I have a bunch of little bald spots on my forearms!

I need a new editing program. I recently got a new computer and one of the many complications of the switch-over is that google no longer offers Picasa, which I was using and which I was comfortable with.
I tried Photoshop junior one time in the past and without some coaching I never figured it out.
What do you guys use?

Ray i use Gimp.

I use Irfanview on the home puter. Most of what i post here is straight from the phone camera.

I have Photoshop, but my company bought it for me. Most people don't use Photoshop just for hobby stuff, it's too expensive.

I'm running a Linux OS and I use a free photo manager called Shotwell. It doesn't have near the features of photo shop, just the basics but it works for me. There is also a web based photo manager called Photobucket. It can be useful but it also has issues.

I need a pretty basic program since like much of my generation, I have limited computer skills. I took a look at Google - photos but it seems to want possession of my photos. I have no need for storage as I have plenty of space on my desktop.
I downloaded Gimp but I have no idea as to how to get started. It is just a line in my download file, or is it folder? Next time one of the grandbabies is here, I'll get them on it.

Fine vintage CASE!!

To Ray's question - I have used photoshop in the past (a friend gave me the program years ago so it is outdated) but despite the fact I have some computer skills photoshop is quite complicated - and in the end I just used basic editing functions though photoshop could do so much more if one was inclined to learn and do so... now I understand there is a simpler version of Photoshop in addition to the more complicated one used by probably professional photographers. Also I have used a Nikon Editing program but that came with my camera many years ago... that was my PC experience... over the last 2 years I have been transitioning to MAC so been using just the simple editing function associated with iPhoto... though I am considering getting Photoshop but not the expensive version - the version toned down for simple use ... I still use the PC on occasion but the MAC graphics are the best in my opinion.... probably little help here Ray but just relaying my experience.

As an aside - amazing how the digital age of cameras have changed photography - I shot film for years... that made me hone my photography skills as developing film and having it printed was too costly (and with digital you can just shoot away with no cost except time )... even though I went through a period of developing my own film... I quite liked using slide film and making prints using Cibachrome - those were amazing prints in terms of color etc (National Geographic quality if you know what I mean) ... now Cibachrome if still available anywhere is so expensive it is ridiculous...

Roofsc - that Randall walking stick/knife is amazing ... never saw anything like it....
