I wish some of these old ads for carving sets, or 40 cent pocketknives, had pictures or names. It would be interesting to see what you got for those prices back then.

I know......almost all the cutlery ads, with the exception of ads for razors, razor
blades, silverware sets and lawn mowers, go nameless/brandless. Remington is
the only name, so far, that I've seen associated with ads for cutlery, a fixed blade
hunting knife, a pocket knife, a butcher knife and a send-in offer for a paring knife.
It makes it seem as though all the other pocket knives and the fixed blade knives were
all of a generic brand. We'll see how things develop in the coming days, months and years
(in the newspapers).
