Mike, Dan, beautiful Keen Kutter's with great blade etch's, just don't find them that way all that often.

Picked up this 3 3/8 Congress this week, marked Keen Kutter on the mark side and K16 on the pile side of both main blades and no markings on the pens. I can't decide if its mint unused or cleaned expertly. Blades appear to be full with factory edges and has very nice bone.

Bill, Dan, thank you. Any idea of a date range for this knife?

I'd forgot about this one, from my small collection of KK's. I think it's the same as a camillus 68, I really like it especially the spiral punch.

And while I'm making new discoveries of things that I've owned a long time I just found out that my camera phone can zoom and get readable pictures of tang stamps

This is a old EC Simmons Keen Litter with pick bone handles.I'm not sure what to call this pattern.Small sodbuster?It is 3 3/8" long.It is a hefty little knife.

The KK on previous page that is the Camillus made stock knife, is just branded "Keen Kutter" inside the shield. There is no "E.C.Simmons". Did the Keen Kutter branding get purchased and become a stand alone brand name ? Or, what is the relationship between this Camillus made Keen Kutter and a knife branded: "E.C.Simmons Keen Kutter" ?

Shapleigh bought ou EC Simmons in July 1940. From that time on there was no EC Simmons on the tang stamp. Camillus made Keen Kutter knives both before and after 1940.

Roger, your knife is a K2901. According to Sellens it was in the Simmons catalogs from 1917 to 1920, so another Walden made knife. He doesn't give a pattern name, nor does the 1917 catalog. However, as much as quoted knife values are worth, he does value it quite highly at $250 in excellent condition (his grading system, I believe, is very close to the NKCA one). Here is a catalog page, with your knife on it, from the 1917 catalog.

I posted this in etched knives thread but figured it should go here also, an old Wardlow Cutlery Co Walden NY salesman's sample. Great etch that was a trademark used by EC Simmons. Probably made in the old Walden Knife Co factory.

Wow Mike, that is a beauty!! For sure over a 100 years old and still with an intact blade etch.

Somewhere in my house is an old Keen Kutter I used as a kid in Kansas in the 60s. But I can't find it. Jigged bone handles, long spear blade and pen blade, bolsters had ridges across them, no buttcap. Still have a scar on my left little finger from that knife. One of these days I will find it....
