All About Pocket Knives

Those knives are not that rare.I have seen 20 or more over the years and have owned 2.They came as jack knives also.They were store display knives,not salesman samples.The shackles on the ends were for hanging the knife to display it.The knife originally was etched hammer brand.

This one just walked in the door.
This is my first New York Knife Co. knife. I quickly went through this thread and it looks like these are some nice, well made knives.
Here is mine.....
Hammer brand... marked 3340. Recon what these covers are made of?
They "move" and have that "glitter" down in them.
No shrinkage to speak of. Main blade has half stops and snaps like a gator.

Here is a very nice 2 blade Regular jack marked "Hammer Brand" "2213" on master clip blade and "New York/Knife Co/Walden" on the pen secondary.
I do not know what the wood is but it is very attractive. Beautiful older knife.

I think 'hardwood', Ebony or Cocobolo make for the best handles for pocket knives, very durable, rarely chip or crack and look just as good at age 100 as they did when new.

Mike, your handle material is celluloid. I have seen that type (which appears to move) referred to as waterfall celluloid. Not entirely sure on that, though?
That is a lovely jack, Roland, as has been said, beautiful wood.
Lovely old jack, edge213. The jigging gives it away as a NYKC product without looking at the tang stamp.

A Wallkill River Works whittler. Interesting mark side blade polished, pile side crocus finish, it also has both tang stamps that Wallkill used, Wallkill Walden on 2 blades and Wallkill River Works on one.

Beautiful knife, John! I think it was quite common back then to crocus polish the mark side and leave the pile side with a glazed finish? Often to facilitate an etch.

Here's a rarity, a New York Knife Co 3 1/2" jack in stag, pattern # 29776, don't see very many early American made knives in stag.

Lovely knife. Love the handles.
