Johnierotten: how do you tell that the handle material is not bone? I'm examining a real bone handled knife right now for comparison. I thought maybe the depth of the jigging might be shallow on delrin but am not sure.

QS....its really hard for me to explain. I've collected knives for so long..it comes natural to me.
Delrin has a dull look to it...not like bone..also if you have a magnifying glass or loupe..bone will have small holes (pores) that sometimes are visible.
Camillus is known for its delrin scales...as well as Schrade. .....still a very nice Scout.

Scott I love that Camillus Dean ya can't go wrong with that Sodie Jr. Jerry the whittler is great fast becoming my favorite pattern.

QS -- It's what JohnnieR said plus the coloration where the handles are hafted, plus knives with that '89-closing tang stamp didn't have bone handles. I may be way off base here but I don't believe Camillus used anything other than Delrin, wood and metal for folding knife handles after about 1960. Delrin was called several different names but it was still Delrin. You can check with Dale (Orvet) on that but I feel pretty comfortable saying it.

I think I've got it. I see the coloration difference at the ends of the scales. Very clear on the Scout and a couple of others I just checked. Also think I see the dullness JohnnieR referred to. Am learning a lot. Thanks to all. Give me another 20 or 30 years and I just might know what I'm doing in this hobby.

Jerry..your not way off base.. just a little.
They made a few series of knives with bone...but not many. Classic Cartridge Series for one..and some NKCA knives..also some commemoratives.
Heres a few that I own.

The Remmy Scout (first pic) is Camillus made ..but has delrin scales.

As it always seems to be with Camillus, there are only definite maybes. I was looking at the Cartridge Series in a 1993 catalog and the handles for that year are Delrin. No wonder this hobby drives ya crazy.

Actually ..maybe not wood...but they did make a Safari series in wood...but it does have a cartridge shield.

Even a blind hog can find an acorn every now and then. I goofed off and let a Western folding hunter get away from me so, I decided that I was going to put a bid on the next nice looking knife that I saw with a low opening bid. I won this USA Winchester E-Toe. It had an opening bid of $50.00 plus $5.00 S&H and no one had placed a bid so I did, for $50.00. Then I turned the computer off. Fired this old computer back up the next morning and was surprised that no one else had bid and I had won the knife. (borrowed picts. of my knife, not my picts.). It's a real quality made knife. I was pleased when I got it out of the mail. It's in mint shape with box and papers. May not have hurt to have bought a lottery ticket that day too. Na, a man shouldn't press his luck.

Nice stuff guys..........here are a couple GEC Elk #72's. They were Cocobolo and MM rehandled them for me.
I asked for a plain bar shield on them.....and I think he did an outstanding job. THANKS KALEB!!
