Glad you're enjoyin' the knife, Scott. It's a good one to carry, that's for sure! That cow horn is rough and tumble stuff!

After weeks or even months of not changing anything, my Grandpaw's 8OT has been swapped for my Case Medium Stockman CV Amber Bone.

And my SRM763 has been swapped for my 710.

Otherwise just the same old boring Dave.

I have been rotating a Schrade 8OT, a Buck 303, and a 3" Sharp swell end jack for the past couple of weeks.

Back to old faithful today. A 3.5 case congress that got me started on collecting the congress pattern. Just slides in the procket like an old friend.

Today is the opening of modern firearms deer season in eastern NC. I went over to Wilson County early for a morning hunt. Sitting in a stand not only do you get rejuvenated, you also have plenty of time to think. One thought was had to do with my equipment - I realized that not only was I hunting with a favorite Winchester, but I was also carrying two Buck knives, a 303 for my pocket and a 113 to skin the deer with. I was reminded that on my first deer hunt, at Aberdeen Proving Ground MD in November 1976, I was using a Winchester Super X Model 1 shotgun and carrying a Buck 301 and a Buck 105 - I still own all three of the originals. OH

I hope you have a great hunting season, OH. I am headed up the mountain for elk tomorrow; May be my last physically demanding hunt; I am getting pretty old and frail. Never shot an elk. Hoping you all will wish me luck. Weatherby Vanguard (ugly) in .300 WSM and Ruana fixed blades. My first few game animals were with a pre-'64 Winchester in .308 back in the early 1960s, and who-knows-what for knives; back then they were only tools; I had not yet gotten bitten by the bug.

Tongueriver - here is hoping you drop the biggest elk of your life - especially if it is indeed to be your last elk hunt! Best of luck to you. OH

Went to the Jankowiak Family Reunion yesterday (Mom's side of the family - good Pollacks!)

As I was getting ready to go, first I could find no shoes that would look okay with shorts. Then no shorts suitable for wear. THEN I thought "What would Grandpaw have done?" You would NEVER have seen that man in shorts! So jeans it was!

And slipped his well used Schrade 8OT in my pocket!

I like that match strike 8ot ::tu::Went out after Coydogs and Pheasant this weekend toteing the Schrades I love the steel on these babies

This combo has become my standard EDC combo. The Buck 112/442 drop point is just amazingly useful. The 442 blade is just perfect for everything I throw at it. Love the deep belly. Tho frame is light, strong and super comfortable in hand. Tried going back to the Opinel. No dice. I like the Ecolite much better.

In my LFP I carry the Micra, which continues to surprise me. Was sahaping some flashing for some gutter repair on Suaturday and the shears were perfect for some final trimming. Then at church yesterday, I was putting away some cream and noticed the handle on the fridge was loose. Easily and instantly fixed. Trims my mustache and beard, too. Can't do that with the Buck.

Snort! I know for a danged fact I can shave with mine. I have a buddy who's a contractor. He has this CutCo flipper. Paid like $80 for the thing and it has 440A steel. What the heck? $80 for that? Anyhow, he was complaining about not being able to sharpen it at church so I handed him my 112. He touched the edge and his eyes nearly popped out of his head.

"Dude!!"

Then he put it to his forearm and proceed to clear a swath off the back of it.

He giggled like a school girl at the prom. (no offense ladies)

As for my hair, I rely on Wald, not Buck and not Leatherman.

Snow up north. Deer season is coming. Then ski season.

EDITED to Add: Yes, I did end up sharpening his CutCo for him but really, the lad has got to get a sharpening system.
