Hey Gard, how do you like the 125OT compared to the Buck 110? Looks like a whole lotta knife!

Carrying this yet again. Can't say enough good about this knife. Broad back like a classic 112. Easy to pocket light weight of Paperstone scales. The most perfect EDC blade I've ever used.

Buck should make this. Maybe if a pocket knife forum decided to order some as a forum special?

That is a very nice lookin' knife indeed Pinnah. I've been intrigued by the paperstone handles ever since Buck put them out, but have never had one in hand...could you describe how they feel? I know they are light, but do they feel solid? Or do they have a hollow type feel to them? It appears that the section of the handles above the finger grooves are textured slightly, does that area provide some good hand traction? Similar at all to G-10? Just curious....

Mike,

The Ecolite fills my hand really well. I've gotten into to screwing around with whittling some (making lots of shavings - more socially acceptable than public knitting, knife sharpening and gun cleaning, I've found). I have a Schrade 5OT, Buck 500 Duke and a Bucklite Max 482, all of which are much thinner in their frame and with the Ecolite, classic 112 and classic 110, I find that my right thumb lasts longer as I can press hard against the broad back. For wood working, I hugely prefer the the Ecolite. It's super lightweight and the grooves work so well that that knife literally disappears in my hand. I focus on the work, not the knife - which is testament to the knife, imo. As much as I love my 112 and 110 and well balanced as they are and as nice as having a fist full of handle is, I notice their weight after a bit.

You are right in asking about the hollow feeling. Yes, it can feel hollow. A part of the problem is that the liners are partial liners so the well is wider than on a stock 112 or 110. Add to this that the Paperstone edge is sharp and not sanded off, and when turning the knife in my hands, the edge of the well will sometimes catch against my fingers and produce that hollow sensation you asked about.

Still, it has shot to the top of my EDC pile and is resistant to any other knife being carried like no other knife I've owned in the past 5 years. The Schrade 5OT and Opinel #8 were the top carries for a long time, but this has blown them clear outta the water. The frame is the thing. It just feels so much better in my big hands. Add to this that it has the classic lines of the 112. It's not stunningly beautiful like a brass & wood 112 is, but it's dang handsome and retains the 112's nice lines. Sort of like crossing a 112 and a Sodbuster.

I can't say enough about the 442 blade that I have on mine. Much nicer to use than the 112 clip for me.

Wasn't joking about us considering this for a forum knife this year. I know I can't afford much this year (getting crushed by costs) but I would go for another with an AAPK blade etch.

Hope this helps

Thanks for taking the time to write that up Pinnah, I appreciate it. I know it must be a pretty special knife to knock your much beloved Opinel out of the top spot in your rotation!
....also noticing there is no thumb stud or nail nick tha I can see...must be enough of the top of the blade protruding so you can just pinch and pull it up that way..?

I have had a few knives in rotation. A Cass Russlock red/cv blade, Cass folding hunter single blade w/thumb stud, Schrade SP2 lockback, and two Kershaws.
More and more I have the Kershaw leek in my pocket. I like the assisted opening. Blade is good size and it takes little effort to get a razor sharp edge on it.
It is thin and light weight in the pocket. It did not cost that much so if it gets lost, it is not a big hit in the wallet.

Here is a couple pics of the knives in my rotation.
I retired a couple Schrade Badgers and SP2s.
A couple are still in very good condition. I try to keep them clean and razor sharp.

Thank you, I do like the Russlocks too, the clip point is CV the drop point is SS, both will shave the hair off my arm.
They both work well for cutting cardboard and everyday tasks. Seems to me the CV is easier to get an edge on.
I am drawn to drop/spear point blades, why I have a bunch of Dr's knives.
Just got a Mercator in the mail, I had to put an edge on it, was not the sharpest new knife i have ever received.
The Kershaw on the right is a Leek, it is light and thin in the pocket, sharp too!!
It is whatever my mood is that day I guess or what I set out to do as to the one I take for the day.

The asking prices on e-bay are crazy for the drop points. I get mine here.

Thanks Johnnie, I was watching that Hunter on e-bay a couple years ago. No one was bidding on it.
Was listed for 25$ and if I remember free shipping. So at the last second I bid 30$ got it for 25, the only bid.
Right place at the right time. You have to get lucky once in a while.

And I thought I got a good deal.
Well I would try to look up their phone number and tell them to send you the postage money and send it back to them.
Or if your independently wealthy just send it back, you will get three brownie points with the big guy up above.

shugy -- I can't tell if you really don't know what's going on or if you're just being sideways. In case you are truly unaware, that's what's known around here as a "knife bomb". When some generous AAPK individual (in this case 'gringo') sends a free knife to you out of the clear blue sky, you've been 'bombed'. Sit back and enjoy.

Congratulations on your new knife and bless ole gringo's heart, he's a swell feller ain't he. Way to go Donald, you old rascal you.
