At a recent gunshow I attended, I have to admit I saw one of the most bizarre things ever. On one of the tables for sale an individual had a custom rifle that was built on a Ruger #1 falling block action. This rifle had an absolutely beautiful stock and fore arm from very highly figured walnut in a very unusual configuration with a carved cheek piece with a lot more drop in the stock that is standard in the Ruger #1. The action had been rebarreled with a heavy octagon of about 28 or 30 inches long with great looking blueing. The whole thing looked absolutely magnificent. Then I was curious as to what the chambering might be for such a custom rifle, and when I looked closer and saw the stamping on the flat of the barrel, I bruised my jaw when it hit the floor. This custom rifle had been chambered for the 45ACP cartridge!!!! The seller was asking $1200 for it, which would have been a fraction of what it would have cost to build I am sure. A bone stock #1 Ruger rifle in the common centerfire hunting calibers costs that or more. It just blows me away to try to think what use such a rifle would have in the 45ACP (that is the 45 automatic pistol cartridge). All I can say is WOW!

I'm sure you got double your money's worth out of it for 20 years of owning it. If you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost 20 years ago? Do they still make that model?

I would have opted for a 219 Zipper over that. :D

Is it condemned? .... Could it be milled to a 45/70 or something?

Possibly, or it could be re barreled. But I can't get what the original idea was for the chambering? Hard to imagine a load for the 45 ACP that could push a bullet down 28-30" of barrel. I asked the fellow about it, but he just owns the rifle now, he was not the one who had it built. He had no explanation either.

I purchased the Smith and Wesson pistol for $225 years ago. They have been out of production for years now, a cheaper version was also made. Not a big following because of the takedown for cleaning.
Never been a issue for me.

Here is a nice Ruger I picked up this weekend, along with a nice little Remington and a New York Knife.
I am sure pleased with 'em all.

Ray, Did you get the Ruger in .38 or .357? I have two in .357 [without external hammers].

It is a .357 and it is the 1st revolver I have bought in a long time, 25 or 30 years, I guess. It has never been fired and I got a good deal on it I think. :D

Amen! I HAD a S&W Airweight for a short time. I fired off some 38 special +p in it and decided it weren’t for me. Nasty little thing.
