We were told of a rattlesnake on the trail ahead.
Sure enough, it was an Eastern Diamondback. We could hear the rattling from 10 yards away!
Left side, base of tree, near pavement.....kinda looks like a brown pile of dirt in pic...

Couple of healthy looking specimens, I don't like spider and snakes and that's that.

I don't mind garder snakes, or black snakes. Even chicken snakes or cow suckers have their place (as long as they ain't in the nesting boxes eating my eggs). Matter of fact, Pa would have skinned my hide if I had hurt the big black snake he had living in the corn crib.
But that copperhead, I believe I would have had to send him on to glory.

Amen, Colonel!

No worries Mate. I figured if I was having trouble picking him out, others may be too. I see no one wants to get close to him.

A six foot Copperhead would be nothing to trifle with - see plenty enough here when hunting, but never seen a 6' - yikes! OH

Eastern Diamondbacks are tough customers Scott - giving em space is the only good thing to do. OH

I was sort of wondering when one of your missions would kick up a rattler or a cottonmouth. You guys go into some pretty rough areas.

We've now seen both in the last 60 days!!! I carry a 48" ice scraper, with hard wood handle.....as a walking stick/self defense tool!!

Scott - We need to get three bugout bags packed. So far it looks like Irma is going to stay out of the Gulf, but it is better to be prepared. Looks like things could be tough over your way. Most of the models predict it staying in the Atlantic as it moves past Florida; maybe they will be right.
What I dread more than a storm is the state and local government responses. My state has a really bad track record of ordering mandatory evacuations that are physically impossible to implement and mainly serve to create more worry among already worried folks. I think Houston took a much better approach to the evacuation issue: hopefully some other states will take notice.

Scott, you need to take those snakes to court and introduce them to The Judge.

"Here comes the Judge"
This is probably the version you remember.

I think what I recall the best is a little spot someone used to do on Laugh In.

That's the one! Sammy Davis Jr!
You know what,, looking back, that was a silly show but I always found it entertaining. "You can call me Ray or you can call me Jay but you doesn't have to call me Johnson!" Was that a penis reference? It never occurred to me at the time.

What a beautiful morning! It's now dropped to 60 degrees, we were sittin' on the front porch in our rockin' chairs drinkin' that 1st cup of coffee. All of a sudden our dog bails off the porch headin' for the woods! I was able to call her back and in a few minutes an old hen and her five 3/4 grown turkeys walked the driveway and headed into an old pea patch that had been mowed. We've been seein' them for a month or so. The big deal is, these are the 1st that have raised a brood around here in many years! Hope the coyotes both 2 and 4 legged will let them raise.
Feel like a kid at Christmas when I see stuff like this! The deer are always around but the turkey, that's special.
Treefarmer
Momma and babies headin' for the old pea patch.
Velvet antlers still growing, no fawns have been seen yet but it won't be too long.

We always have plenty of turkeys in the neighborhood.
Usually hens and youngsters are what we see; toms are rare .
I don't know of anyone who hunts them around here.
Three or four years ago we had a gaggle of 2 hens and 11 babies staying near the cemetery.

We see both almost daily although the turkeys have not visited like they did last year. We have 2 hens with 8 yonkers that come by. The boss saw bambl this morning I was still checking out the inside of my eyelids. We have had a young coyote lurking around although I haven't seen it for a few days. These toms and jakes came by a couple of weeks ago
