Man Greg S. you live right next to "Blade". Gives you the opportunity of picking up the best knives, every year !
The mammoth #12 is a 2009 knife. It really is disappointing that there was no mammoth in the 2019 #12's. It makes the older mammoth GEC's a special score.

I agree Roland. I'm only 15 minutes from the Blade Show. I've gotten lucky two years in a row finding stellar mammoth pieces.

Wow gsmith, great blade show haul. Beauties.
My one and only toothpick showed up today. The bones did it to me. Nice size and blade for it.

Last hunt for #53 or #54 ebony or other wood was a success. Added a 530411 Castro, 541214 Moose, 541217 Desert Ironwood and a 541214 Big Jack. All mint with tube-Yeeehaw.

Those 54's are fine knives, very much like a big old 1920's USA equal end jack, especially those with ebony or cocobolo. They are real work knives.

Yep, they are capable and satisfactory for a variety of tasks. All I've gotten exhibit good walk and talk and have the relatively stout pull I like in a traditional slip joint folder for camp craft, to dress game or fire making.

Recent acquisition from one of our old faithful. Million thanks B. Monk. Now it's an heirloom/crown jewel hand me down to the kids. Cannot tell from pics how deep the grain and stains in the tusk, like a desert scene, but solid tight in every way, the knife and the ivory. So much different color in the tusk. Such a smooth, silky, supple, glossy orgasm of touch for the finger tips and the palms. Can't even tell ya. Can't capture the depth in pics either.

It looks pretty good in the pictures too. Is it a #73, no liner lock ? and 2007 ?
I also got one from the Monk, 735108, with tan colored mammoth and liner lock. I just dropped it walking from the safe to computer desk. It hit the hard wood floor end on. But it has caps, so no damage done. Yeah caps !

I think the #73 is a great pattern and 3 3/4" to me is perfect size for this pattern. The #23 is also a very fine knife, but the 4 1/2" size is quite large.
Either would work equally well for say field dressing a deer, so the extra length & weight of the #23 does not give any advantage over the smaller #73.
