Great 37 you have there Colonel. Unusual set up too as you say.

Steve check and see if that Ruger SS is an Old Model. If it is, 500 isn't bad at all. If it's the New Model, seems slightly high for used. At the number it should have the box, paperwork, extra 22 mag cylinder if it came that way.

By "Old Model" are you talking about a three screw?

I really love the old west look. Next I'll start saving my pennies for an SAA revolver. Suggestions for a model in .22 or .38 caliber that won't break the bank? Gotta have that old Colt Peacemaker look to it, though.
Happy for you Steve. I bet you like it. I've had a couple of the Ruger single six's and liked them both. Good luck on your search. ::tu::

Sometime in 1973 Ruger added the transfer safety bar under the hammer, thus the New Model Single Six. Even if it has the tranfer bar it may be an Old Model anyway. If it doesn't have "New Model" stamped in to the barrel rollmark, its an Old Model. Of course, an original Old Model won't be identified as such since it wasn't when produced. :D

Jerry I don't know about 3 screws but after looking at the new models on line, yeah the OM's had 3 screws showing on the the right side of the frame. The New Model's do not. The early OM had a flat loading gate too but was changed over to the familiar shaped loading gate.

I assembled all except for the rifle on the far right from parts for less than $400 per copy. :D

Sweet! I'm thinking a bear, just might want to turn around and head the other way.

Maybe so. The last 2 that I assembled were a 450 Bushmaster and a 458 Socom. I did have a little over $400 into the 458 socom.

Wet nice Ken! I just assembled my own 5.56. I think, not counting the mags I have something like $332 and change in it with all name brand good parts. Definitely the way to go.

I bet the 458 is a hoot. I’m thinking 6.5 Grendel for my next one. Do you have any experience with that flavor?

Great collection of rifles you have Ken,
What do you use these guns for?

I have never owned a AR platform rifle of any type.
I always thought they were out of my financial reach .... :(

Never thought of building my own from scratch. I assumed the parts would
add up to big bucks, too.

So someone educate me on building an AR type for under $400 !
I am most intrigued. Is there a reliable tutorial out available?
A "rifle building for dummies" ??????

There are multiple YouTube videos for that endeavor.

I think choice of components is the kicker, though. Do you buy the least expensive throughout or go with name recognition?

Ken98, Just curious. I was recently reading reports that the number of bear attacks, especially by black bears, has been increasing in Alaska. Do you have a specific "bear gun?" Or perhaps you live in a city where bears are not a consideration.

What I did was buy a couple of stripped lower receivers, just a shell. Those are “technically” the gun since they’re the only parts that have a serial number, and thus the only parts that if you buy new need to go through an FFL. All the other parts can ship directly to your house.

We are living in good times for AR’s. Everybody and their brother are making mil spec parts, and several companies are making high end components as well. For my build I wanted a light, no frills AR to carry in the truck or on the tractor or while walking in the woods. I went with a plain ol milspec 5.56, 16” carbine.

A lower parts kit, with all the parts to build out the lower receiver will cost $30-$100 depending on brand name, does it include stock and pistol grips etc.....

The upper is where it can get expensive. What kind of barrel, which gas system, what hand guards and rails, etc.... If you’re flexible you can look for deals. I suggest checking out Palmetto State Armory. They sell parts from lots of manufacturers, and even their own branded parts. They also put out daily deals that just about can’t be beat.

Two days after Christmas they put out a deal on a complete upper with barrel, bolt group, everything ready to slap on a lower. Plus all the lower parts and the stocks. Everything except the lower receiver which I already had. The upper was a PSA upper and all the stocks and lower parts were Magpul. The upper and lower parts kit was $299 with free shipping. I had to buy some mags and put it on the lower receiver I had given $32 and change for. I put it together in my living room. It’ll out shoot me.

Never used them for anything but punching paper but I may use the 458 socom for moose this fall.

I buy parts when I find a good price and put them away until I have enough to put a rifle together.

Typically I carry a 357 or 10mm auto or a 44mag. A handy rifle is always better though, even a 30-30 win has a lot more power than a 44mag.
Never been attacked by a bear but I did have to shoot a moose that attacked.

Initially, I bought barreled a couple uppers but mostly I buy barrels, bolts, carriers forends, etc. and assemble them myself.
It takes time to get everything together if you're a bargain shopper like me, sometimes years.

Thanks for that reply. That’s what I’d like to do as well. I’m glad to see that it’s a possibility. Now I need to get a few more tools for the upper building and look for parts!

LISTEN UP!!
I've been a Life Member of the NRA since 1971. I donate some, have upgraded my membership, recruited my wife, bought memberships for male family members, all to say I believe in the 2nd Amendment wholeheartedly!
I read the NRA-ILA Grassroots alerts that are updated usually weekly on line. I know some of y'all live in Maryland and Hawaii just for an example. Google the Grassroots alerts and see what is being purposed in your state. The craziness is not restricted to MD and HI, it's nation wide.
It is refreshing to read when a state proposes legislation to protect our 2nd Amendment rights and activities that are connected with the 2nd Amendment .
Take time and be shocked by some of this mess!! ::facepalm::
