Being that we just changed our clocks (again.)
The below "Railroad Time Zones" fits right in with the current times.

How Railroads Created Time Zones
Railroad companies first created time zones as a way of regulating schedules for their trains. Before the railroad boom of the 1800s, each town kept its own standard time, often based on the position of the sun.

But as transportation methods improved and travel times decreased, these inconsistencies created headaches for companies and passengers alike. How could a train leave Philadelphia at 10:25 am local time, travel for two hours, and arrive in Pittsburgh at 11:15 am local time? And was that train leaving at 10:25 Philadelphia time, or 10:25 Pittsburgh time? Safety was also a concern, as trains attempting to run on the same tracks at the same time could crash.

To put it simply: Companies needed a way to literally make the trains run on time. The Great Western Railway in Great Britain came up with a solution first, implementing a standard “railway time” in its stations in 1840. By adopting one single time, the Great Western Railway could ensure its trains operated on the same time table. Conductors could also more easily coordinate which trains were running on which tracks at a given time, lowering the chances of a crash.

Time Zones Come to the US
Following from this early success, US companies began adopting their own railway times in the 1880s. They established four standard time zones for the continental United States in 1883.

However, many towns refused the changes, not wanting to sacrifice their independence for a corporate-mandated standard. Localities continued to keep their own time in addition to “railway time,” creating a dual time system that (if anything) made the issue worse.

The Standard Time Act of 1918
The federal Standard Time Act in 1918 put an end to these discrepancies. The act allowed the (now-defunct) Interstate Commerce Commission to create time zones. Though the boundaries have shifted over the decades, the four original continental US zones (Eastern, Central, Mountain and Pacific) remain. The legislation also temporarily established Daylight Savings Time in most of the United States, another temporal oddity.

Thanks cudgee. ::handshake::
Seems that everytime I see a picture of a Train Conductor or Lineman he either has a Pocket Watch in his hand or an obvious Watch Pocket Chain dangling from his well worn overalls.
Time was (and is) a life determining factor. ::pray::

They live by time, and do till there departing day. When i was on school holidays at my auntie and uncles, he used to go around the house every Monday night to adjust every clock in the house, and he was not a railway man. But you could hear the trains from their house, and he used to look at his fob/pocket watch every time the trains were going past and would comment on it's punctuality or lack thereof. ::handshake::

Classy old switching loco, John. Pretty sure I have never seen one, I read where only 131 were produced.

And phone doesn't ask for permission.

Go to your settings, click on bluetooth, and check if everything tis turned on.
Also in the privacy settings, you may have it turned off.
Hope that helps Dave.

If anyone runs N scale model trains - the Milam County Train Museum in Cameron Texas is having a raffle to raise money. The museum was closed forever due to covid and is only open on a limited basis currenly.

They are raffling off a Winter Wonderland Village in N-scale.

This is a fully refurbished Victorian Railways S Class EMD. This one was saved from the scrappers and fully fitted out, it is 60 years old. A single end bulldog, in the classic old Blue&Gold of the old VR.

My wife's Dad worked for a short line here in East Mississippi. The meridian and Bigbee railroad.
My wife's great uncle worked for a railroad (Union Pacific maybe) out west (Wyoming area) in the early part of the 1900's. (1930's maybe??)
Anyway, we rescued some pictures from his old home before it fell in a few years ago.
Here is one from out that way.....

One of the coolest we found was this one....
They used to build rail lines in logging area to bring the logs in to the mill area.
Here is one taken at a logging operation in Mehan, MS, about 15 miles from where I live.
