I used my knife for one of the very best jobs: to open a package containing a new knife! (An old Kutmaster camp knife from an eBay auction)

Opening many little parts bags to build a filing cabinet.

Desmobob, don't let that bother you, my friend! That SOG is a gasket scrapper supreme, that's why it rides in the breast pocket of my bibs. One hand operation and it protects my Case or Queen from abuse.

Having a "sacrificial" knife is necessary for the good of others, I guess...

Fedex just dropped this off. I preordered it back when Mattel first announced these (you could only get them if you preordered it--if I recall most of the $15 this cost went to charity right then and there) back in April. I had figured the "Dec. 31" date they gave was just filler, and figured it would probably end up being summer or fall. Well, I was wrong. It shipped finally, on Friday, and showed up today.

Used the (factory second; but perfectly fine to me) Native 5 to cut the plastic bag the Fedex driver used to attach the package to the fence, and to open the box and package. The box, unlike 5 and 9 packs actually has a traditional flap, and not glue, so I won't have a problem using it to store the set.

Cool pic, great whittling project. What kind of wood do you use or what works best? Seems like a job for Hickory or Oak, maybe maple but can't tell what wood that is.

Sycamore. It has the coolest grain when sanded down...

I agree, the grain in that one is beautiful. And you didn't do a bad job exposing the grain as well. Lovely.

Thanks. Appreciate the tip because I do some stuff like spoons and whistles and that grain is great. Gotta get me some and try it, never worked Sycamore. How hard is it, softer like pine and fir, or harder like maple and oak? Thanks again and that is beautiful. Couldn't see the grain like that when it was rough. Wow what a finisher.

Had to sharpen my pencil before I cut a piece on the old radial arm saw. I figured this Jeffin Camillus 23 was up to the job.

Cut up one of the wild oranges I found.....sooooooooooooooo tasty!!

I enjoy seeing what others are doing with their knives so I thought I'd give this thread a bump into the new year.

I inherited an old Weber kettle grill from my sisters estate and finally decided to use it. Its been decades since I have used a charcoal grill as during my last marriage the missus did most of the grilling on a gas grill I won. Anyway I educated myself with a little online research and after the new grate arrived (original one was rusted to much) and grilled up burgers that were very well received. Yesterday I decided to try chicken breasts on the grill and they came out excellent if I do say so myself. My helper through the day was my micarta GEC 23 which I find myself carrying without much second thought. I used one of the kids markers to add a little contrast to the handle as didn't have much if any. I have come to like the 23LL and was lucky enough to pick up one of the Redtail version yesterday when Mike at CollectorKnives got the final lot in, looking forward to getting it in hand and into my belt sheath.

Anyway a pic of yesterdays dinner with my all around knife.
