Evidently I was typing as you were sending. If the occasion ever presents itself I'll gladly stand you to a coke including a dollop of Jack Danials.

You must be too young to recognize the phrase, "Jinx. You owe me a Coke."

When I was in high school, if two people said the same thing at the same time, one or the other would pop out with that phrase and the one who didn't say it was supposed to buy a Coke for the one who did say it.

BUT

If we ever do meet, I'll hold you to that promise.

I picked these up on the week-end. The first one is a PAL, Fabrique en Allemagne (made in Germany), and the second one does not have a name but is made in Germany as well. From my novice research, I think the PAL may date from 1941 - 1953...would anyone care to chime in on its age based on the French connection. cheers...

Here is one that is a bit unusual.I got this at a flea market for 50 cents.The tang had been broken off halfway down(at a hole)and someone had wrapped the remaining leather washers with old style cloth electrical tape.Must have been done a LONG time ago as the blade and tang were pretty rusty.
It sat around in my,"Used & Abused" department for a couple years until I got it out the other day and decided to see if I could repair it.
Pulled the tape and the crumbling leather washers and cleaned up the tang a bit.I had some 1" diameter Lexan rod I had used to make a handle for my Case V-42 so I decided to try that.Chucked a piece in the vise and cut it to about handle length.Turned it vertical and made two cuts lengthwise in the center with a hacksaw a bit longer than the protruding remainder of the tang.
Using a flat file I enlarged the slot until it fit over the tang.Mixed up some 2 part epoxy and glued the handle to the tang.When dry I started shaping it to a rough handle.When I got that finished,I still had a slot on top and bottom of the tang.Mixed some more epoxy and filled them.When dry did my final sanding with 220 grit wet or dry and polished it with Mother's Mag Wheel Polish.
I suppose I could have polished up the tang so it would look better but I like the look of the theatre style knife.

Awsome collection! I have a growing fixed blade collection, but nothing to rival yours! Thanks for showing them.

I have sold some of these and added to as well since the pictures were taken. I love the old fixed blade knives. Not as complex mechanically as folders but I think the can be every bit as beautiful. The old knives were all made to use. Pristine examples are hard to come by. Craftsmanship and art from a time of pride in American manufacturing.

Here is a knife that I have been wanting for a long time. I have only seen these come up on ebay a couple of times, and I feel very fortunate to get it. My wife gave me the go ahead to buy it, and called it my Christmas present. It is a transition stamped usa 557. These knives are considered scares, and with it, I have 1 of every pattern fixed blade made during the usa period with stag handles. Sorry to ramble, but I just wanted to share, thanks

Phil, about a month ago, my hardrive fried, and I lost all my pictures. I have yet to retake any of them. If you search this thread, and other fixed blade threads on this forum, they are plastered all over, thanks Tim
