Thanks Charlie,
I'm glad I added it to my collection.
How about a hint of what you have coming?

Well, my latest addition is also a Queen product and since it arrived about an hour ago....here's a pic!
(SMKW owns the Trade Mark "Colonel Coon" these days and contracted Queen to make the modern versions)

Yeah, I canoe, on the Boker Tree river in a stag canoe.
Can you tell what kind of stag that is? It looks a bit smooth and faded.
btw, I can't figure out if I prefer a big shield covering the stag or not.

EW, It's a little hard to tell what kind of antler that your Boker is made out of, but if they called it Stag, then it probably is. It might have been cut from a piece that had layed around in the wild for a while before being picked up, there fore being bleached out a little. Or it might be elk antler? Most Sambar stag was treated with Potassium Permangate before importing which makes it a darker color. Really good stag is getting harder to get all the time. Nice knife however.

Edgewise,
I have the same model knife as pictured below. I was told that the handles were "European Stag" which I assume (and you know what they say about the word assume...) means Red Deer antler. I have some other European knives with similar stag handles. You've got me pondering the question now so I will be doing some research when I get time and maybe someone else will be able to confirm or deny my assumption.
I kinda' like the large banner shield. It's a point of distinguished individuality.

Nice bunch of canoes fellas, I have to admit that this is one I have never gotten into, but I did get one in a collection I bought a year ago but it is an import from China. It seems to be well built however with jig bone handles. It has a NAFC Ltd stamp on the tang which I believe stands for North American Fishing Club and has "America's Legacy etch on the blade. I assume this is a knife for their club meetings, don't think it will ever be highly sought after by collectors, but who knows? I've never used it but seems to be in the same category as the RR knives.

I think you are probably correct Sasquatch in calling the OP knife "red deer antler". It seems the name "Stag" gets thrown around pretty easily now days. To me , Stag means only Indian Sambar stag. I have used a lot of different antlers in my 20 plus years of knife making and sambar stag is different and better than all other antlers. Axis deer is pretty close and Red Deer can have the same color as sambar but not as dense. Just my opinion guys. And everybody has one!

I agree that Indian Sambar is the apex of stag handles. I have used white tail deer, mule deer, sika deer, and elk antlers for handle material and they work but not as well as Sambar. The stag I have seen on many European knives is different from all of those I named including Indian Sambar, or at least it seems so to me. Which is why I make the assumption that it is from a species of deer I'm not familiar with....maybe the European red deer. But then I could be totally off the mark too.

I think you're right. I've already had red deer antler on another Boker and the European companies tend to use European stag horn.
Besides, if it were Sambar stag they definitely would have mentioned it and I would have remembered.

Another new addition arrived this week. This one will probably become an EDC at some point. I love the feel of Delrin in the hand and the stuff is tough as nails. My Ol' Yeller Delrin canoe with CV carbon steel blades is one of my favorite EDCs.

All these nice looking canoes have inspired me. Schatt & Morgan toasted stag canoe with a clip blade instead of the spear blade you normally see.
