2003 Copperlock. Solid knife, great lock up, no wobble, great snap and action. Very thin for a bigger knife. Think it has "as ground" blade, grind lines are visible.

Here's another well used but not abused and much loved lock back. Case '77 LSSP Drop Point. Silky smooth action and lock. 38 years and still locks up tight and solid and never a let down.

That sure looks like a wood (possibly walnut?) handle on that one, Ivoryman, and yet, the pattern number appears to begin with 8 or 6...I can't quite make it out...either way, it seems as if this knife may have been rehandled since neither of those numbers corresponds to Case's numbering system for any type of wood. Are you aware if this is all original or has it been modified at some point in the past 38 years (or is it possibly a Case factory error)?

Here's my gentleman's "Sunday-Go-To-Meeting" AG Russell titanium lockback made in Japan with VG-10 blade steel. Razor sharp, super thin, solid but lightweight little knife with a kid glove leather pocket slip.

The number 6 for handle material does in fact cover laminated wood as a handle material. 7 = Curly Maple, Rosewood or Black Smooth Pakkawood and of course 1 = Walnut.

That knife has smooth handles but sure does not look like Walnut to me. Pakkawood was normally jigged as you know.

I know they made smooth pakkawood but I believe it was black and that is not it.

Good point though. Not sure off hand if they made a smooth wood Hornet or not. Without my research material at the moment. I have a 77' Hornet and I think a 76' Hornet also (not sure as to year) and both are jigged pakkawood. They also made an aluminum Hornet too. But not sure about smooth wood.

I did not realize that 6 covered laminate wood...well, well, learn sumpthin' new every day. I did know that 6 is used mostly for bone...and jigged Delrin (which makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever since one is a natural material and the other synthetic). But, the "Research: Case Handle Materials" tab right here on AAPK certainly confirms what you say...not that I would ever doubt you, of course. Thanks for setting me straight and learnin' me some new knowledge.

Sharp eyes Q, it's #61051 LSSP. Don't know if it's been re-handled. Got it used at the OKCA show in Eugene OR this year so have only had it since April. If it's not a factory job it's just as good, I've seen many of these in smooth and in jigged wood. But I would go with the numbers.

Hey gents, just looked the knife over with magnification. There's a chip in the scale and close examination of all scale edges shows no laminate here. Not that it means much, still could have been a re-handle. But this is definitely not plywood. One solid piece with a chip and no layering. Thanks for all the info and comments. Cheers Q.

My all time fav lock back is the 110 which I own a few dozen as well as a couple of 112's
