Royals set to announce site for a brand new stadium. Looks to be in downtown KC. Fans are heartbroken as they don't want the Royals moving out of Kauffman and see it demolished, which is going to happen. Chiefs say they will take advantage of the space once Kauffman is gone.
I can't even fathom this. My entire child and teen years were in Kauffman (which I still say Royals Stadium). To see the big crest scoreboard and the original fountains destroyed will be devastating to me and many, many fans.
Royals may be .500 this year. Not expecting a lot.

Ken, what are the Rangers chances of a repeat? Do you think DeGrom and Scherzer will be effective?

Good question. I’ll be very surprised if they repeat. It’s hard to do. They have everyone back on the field and all but the DH (Garver) on offense, so they should score runs. They have a couple of highly rated hot-shot rookies, who performed well in the minors, they’re apparently counting on to produce at DH. But the pitching is suspect at best. Sherzer, deGrom, and Mahle are all recovering from surgery and won’t be available until after the All-Star break. Sherzer and deGrom are old (as athletes go) so IMHO it’s unrealistic to expect all of them to recover and be good the first year back from that kind of injuries. Maybe one or two at best will make it. So whether they have enough offense to carry them until the cavalry arrives, who knows?
I’d feel a lot better if they re-sign Montgomery, or sign Snell. Big problem is the television rights deal they had was supposed to run through 2030, but the company declared bankruptcy. The whole deal was in legal limbo for months and the result reportedly turned out to be one more year at a reduced rate - after that they currently have no firm broadcast rights money (the old deal was $110 million per year). It seems that future income uncertainty is preventing them from committing any more big money contracts right now.
Lots of depth on the farm, so they should be good for a while. As currently constructed, whether they have enough pitching to repeat this year, I have doubts.

Football fans will disagree, but imo there is no better time of year to be a sports fan. NHL trade deadline is near and the intensity of the playoffs will follow. MLS season is underway. NCAA March madness is just around the corner, the NBA season is in the home stretch, Nascar races have started, then there is the return of baseball. Ahhhh, baseball and it's many nuances, let the marathon season begin! I am heading down soon for some games in Florida, I will post some pics.

I agree. Spring training games start tomorrow! College and high school baseball games are already under way. Watched a one-point come-from-behind heart pounding thriller between TCU and Texas Tech last night! (Tech was down 10 points with 6 minutes left, and won the game).
I do like me some high school and college football though.

They may, or may not, contend in 2024, but they do have the distinction of having the player with the longest last name in MLB. You need a brawny back to wear that jersey so that the name is readable!

Hey John (1967redrider), I am "scouting" your team, Nats vs. Cardinals today. I think your boys are going to the W.S. this year, they had back to back HR's to start the game.
Here is Corbin striking out Goldschmidt.

Thanks to some good friends giving us tickets for tonight’s Rangers/Cubs game, we got to see the Rangers World Series Championship Ring ceremony. Not trying to gloat (well, maybe just a little ) but I thought the ring itself is interesting so I’m sharing it here. I’m sure other championship rings have their symbolism too but I never gave it much thought until seeing the presentation of this one. Obviously the ring itself is a trophy and not really meant to be worn. One interesting tidbit not included in the graphics below is that the ring weighs 5.3 ounces - exactly the same weight as a baseball. And they cost $75,000 each. Every member of the team, including the trainers, clubhouse attendants, batboys, etc received a ring.
Click pictures to enlarge for easier reading of the details about the ring.
Hope you find it interesting but if not just ignore this post.

Good post, Ken, that must have been a greaat game to see. The video presentation would have been interesting, and the presentation to the players et al would have been great to see. Can they get past the Orioles, Astros, and Yanks again?
Was W at the game?

Thank you Ike, glad you enjoyed reading about the rings. It was a good game, at least from the Rangers’ viewpoint. The Rangers won it 11-2. There were a lot of Cubs fans there - I suspect most of them now live here. They were chanting “Let’s go Cubbies” before the first pitch. They soon got real quiet though and by the 6th or 7th inning most of them had left. It’s only one game but it’s no fun when your team is losing. Only time will tell if they can repeat but it will be fun to watch them try! Them boys can hit!
W wasn’t there. Somebody was sitting in his box, though. No idea who it was. Usually when he attends Laura is with him, along with Nolan and Mrs. Ryan and a few others, Our seats were behind there so all I could see is someone was seated there. They had ballpark security at the box, but no Secret Service bodyguards were there like when W attends.

Cubs rebounded in the 9th yesterday to beat the Rangers 9-5. At least they (Cubs) didn't get skunked.
When you say W, is it safe to assume you are talking about GW Bush?

You are safe in that assumption.
Jerry, pretty much every "expert" that I hear talking of the 2024 season is picking a 2 team race for the NL central, your Cubs and the Reds. You should enjoy this year, but going further than a division title will be very tough with the Braves and Dodgers out there. Holy Cow those 2 teams are stacked!

The Cubs looked tough in Spring Training.
If my Reds starting pitchers stay healthy and everyone else , if Del la Cruz can get on base, if Diaz hasn't lost it. A lot of uncertainty with such a youthful team.

That's a lot of if's there Lyle. The Reds (like the Cubs) are not known for their successful "if's".

The Rays vs Rangers game tonight should be interesting. In last night’s game Rays pitchers hit three Rangers batters, including All Star third baseman Josh Jung who, at the time he was hit was 3-for-4 with a HR and 4 RBIs in the game. (He was 7-for-17 with 2 walks and 2 HR for this season so far). The pitch hit him on the wrist, fractured a bone in his wrist. He’s out indefinitely. (Preliminary speculation I’ve heard is at least 6-8 weeks.)
Evidently the Rays decided they didn’t like being swept at home in the playoffs last year. If you can’t beat them in the game just hit them when they bat. Convenient coincidence, or intentional?? Will be interesting to see if Bochy (or the Rangers players) decides to retaliate. Or just use it as motivation.

Some interesting info about last night’s Astros/Rangers game. I’ve seen a lot of baseball - Angel Hernandez has to be the absolute worst umpire in history. How he keeps a job is a mystery. He single-handed called Wyatt Langford out with the bases loaded, when not a single pitch was anywhere near the strike zone. Not even close!

Something most of us missed: the Rangers and D-backs gave their clubhouse personnel full shares of World Series money. For the Rangers attendants it was over half-million dollars each! https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/wo ... r-BB1lANli

That is a big payday for anyone, but great for clubhouse personnel.
You being a Rangers fan, as I checked pitching matchups today I was thinking that the Gray/Mize would be one to watch. It is now 1 to 1 in the 5th, my kind of game. I have the MLB package and have my favorite teams that I will usually tune in, but also look for the best pitching matchup when choosing a game to watch.
