Desert ride yesterday on the RZR with pucker factor included. Top of Water Canyon in the Sonoma Mountains (attached pics).
Down the mountain for some open desert putting and alternating 50 mph runs.

Nevada Jerry, that is some beautiful country! I'd for sure have to ride on something, all that up and down makes me tired just lookin' at the pictures. Growing up in and living in Florida, flat land is all I know and now that I'm old, traversing that kind of terrain on foot is out of the question. I have trouble when we visit family in north Georgia.
What are your hunting prospects for the coming season? You've always had some great hunting tales.

Yes Sir. We have water running in dry beds that I have not seen flowing in my 21 year tenure here. I mean mad amounts of water not trickles. Water Canyon where we were by name should have at least some water but way more than usual this time of year.

Some major pucker factor included to that ride. Road was washed out due to all the aforementioned precipitation. Had to turn back on a road that would have hung u up.

As to hunting prospects. The usual Waterfowl and Upland. Coyote and other Furbearers in trapping season that can also be taken by firearm. I don't trap currently. Some require a trapping license, others don't dependent on species and season or no restriction at all.

That said, it is either feast or famine in the big game lottery draw here. Bonus points multipliers, buy bonus points but choose not to draw for more chances next year, party hunts where one member draws and all draws, area/zone preference of pick order and lottery, etc. Don't report on whether you harvest, scouted even hunted by a certain date after season ends and you are ineligible for one year, etc. Like doing your taxes by yourself literally but for good reason I trust fully.

I drew this year big game wise...

Antelope horns shorter than eras regardless of sex in Zone 31 "Kings River Valley" 08SEPT2017 to 24SEPT2017. Any legal weapon.

Mule Deer Buck Area 4. Zones -043 thru 046 Late. 21OCT2017 to 05NOV2017, any legal weapon. That among other tags is a zone hundreds of square miles Big bucks likely this year based on massive precipitation. HUGE area. Stretches about 80 miles or more down the interstate as I recall and not shallow in depth/width either.

Cow Elk tag. Area 7/ zone 72 thru 74, any legal weapon. That area and zone is HUGE. Late tag but long season from 21NOV2017 thru 31JAN2018. Long season but with prospect of massive snow, late hunt and the Cow Elk laughing at you while looking two miles away in deep snow up a mountain, difficult hunt. Getting in early is best but that depends on your hunting buddies availability and my schedule. Chose not to hunt last year as I had a tag and capable vehicle/supplies but too dangerous in several feet of snow by yourself even if you hit a huge cow or not. Then what?

Nice pics guys! I spent today in the high sierras at Carson pass just below Round Top Mountain. Caught and released a lot of Rainbow Trout! I never ever thought I would do or even say that! I did bring these home for dinner tonight!

Thanks guys! "Nice fattys, Randy. How did you catch them?" Well I caught some on Salmon eggs and some on cheese glitter Power Bait and even caught a few on a Mepps Spinner. Some guys in kayaks were fly fishing and caught a few. My buddy Dave caught his with a red crappy jig! They were hitting good, probably my best day fishing in 40 years! The hard winter that we had messed up the camp ground so much that the feds wont spend any money to fix it up well enough to open. So The fishing pressure is much lower this year. I normally go up to Woods Lake and spend a few days fishing and hiking the PCH. Yes Phil they are good eats! I was too tired last night to cook them but I'm having a fish fry this morning! Dredge in corn meal with salt and pepper and a little flour and let them sit my my hot oil hot tub until golden brown!

I was carrying a Buck 119 Special and a Taurus Tracker in 44mag.
