It's either feast or famine around here. Along with that really special custom from the shop of glennbad, yesterday's mail brought this Montgomery Wards Powr-Kraft. It's the Camillus #80, made for Wards with the Powr-Kraft tang stamp. The #80 is the 'Deluxe Carpenter's and Whittler's' pattern which is a #72 with all nickel silver bolsters, liners and pins. Then they went one step farther and milled the liners top and bottom. This pattern was only made for about 11 or 12 years. With the help of price lists and catalogs, I've been able (I think) to nail down the years of production for the Camillus #80 to 1954-1965 or '66. This is the first one I've seen with the Powr-Kraft tang stamp. I was lucky to get it.

Awesome knives, guys!
Tim, that Mercator looks like a real workhorse. I'll bet you could slice bricks with that thing! :D
Hey Jerry, you've probably answered this before, but are there any carpenter's whittlers that you know of and don't have yet? The milled liners on that one really adds a touch of class! Nice find!! ::tu::

Thanks WB,

It's really a simple, well made, sharp, and UGLY knife.

I think i'll try tomatoes instead of bricks though ::woot::

None that I can think of. If there are others out there (always a possibility) I don't know of them.

WB -- I spoke too quickly. carrmillus bombed me today with the Alpha and Omega of the 72 pattern.

The Alpha, a WWII Sword Brand split spring whittler made '41-'46 on the same frame as the #72. It's been fluffed, buffed, used and at some point abused a little but she's a fine old girl and I'm just pickled tink to have her in the collection. If I could find one in 'store bought' condition, I would get it but I'll not be letting go of this one. It's WWII through and through.

The Omega -- A Camillus #5. The #72 pattern, only with brass bolsters, stainless steel blades and "resin impregnated laminated wood handles". The #5 shows up first in a 1999 price list and last in the 2003 catalog.

Dave, I think a new knife just makes a fella feel good all over! ::ds:: This is just a nice reward from fixin' the lawn mower, working on yer truck, and cuttin' grass in the heat. Also helps for lost opportunities to go to the swap shops and flea markets. Hope ya have fun with it and will EDC her for a while. Your AAPK neighbor and friend. ::tu:: Rocky

I have it in the pocket of my drawstring shorts just now.

I can't see it rattling around with a flashlight or change, so I don't know about full time EDC yet...

Squirrel, you old dog you. Dropping that bomb on poor unsuspecting Dave like that. An act of kindness for a deserving fella who probably doesn't feel all that deserving right now but he'll get used to the idea.

Kudos to ya Squirrel and congratulations Dave.
