All About Pocket Knives

I'm sorry I confused you. I meant the Schrade knives that belong to the Australians. Those guys are addicted to Schrades. I sure wish I could remember which thread it's in.

You know? The more I think about it, I believe those handles were on another Sears knife. This is going to drive me crazy until I find that post.

Old Hunter, I did a little research on Sears and Roebuck and found they began in 1893. I'd assume (I know that's dangerous) that their 100th anniversary was somewhere around 1993. Here's a link to the Wiki-page ........http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sears#History

Blade's Guide to Knives and Their Vlaues shows Craftsman knives as having been made by Schrade, Camillus, and Ulster over the years. I suspect that your Craftsman 100th knife was most likely made by Schrade. The frame and blade shapes bear a strong resemblence to that of an 8 Old Timer.

If you like to fish, that Camillus is my favorite filet knife of all time.
It feels great in the hand and the locking blade is very flexible for going over the rib cage.

Phil, thanks for the info and the link, very interesting history of Sears & Roebuck (I remember that being the name, forgot that they had dropped it). I found some Sears 100th items on e-bay (no knife like mine though), here is a coin with the same 100 logo and a date - some of these companies (like Case) have so many centennials it is hard to know which one is which! OH

Reading back a few pages;

IM, that cayenne bone tuxedo is a nice Sunday go-to-meetin' knife. Half stops on the blades, swedged and long pull on the main blade plus an arrow shield. You can't go wrong.

Johnnie, I love that red bone backpocket. Large blade with half stop, but slim enough to carry daily. Now I just need to get my sister to make me another paracord lanyard.

Two came yesterday. The first is a #39018 Bluegrass Winchester Whittler (made by Queen?). It's been sharpened (someone took part of the belly off the main blade ) but other than that, it's in good condition. I may have to get one in factory condition so I can carry this one.
The second is not so nice but for 98 cents you shouldn't expect factory fresh. It's an old 1935-1940 Syracuse EZ-Open with a cap-lifter/screwdriver secondary blade. She's been used and abused with a main blade that used to have half-stops and has lost 98% of it's snap. The cap-lifter still snaps like a bear trap. Although not top shelf when new, this was a slick little beauty in her day, now she looks like Phyllis Diller (She's still alive ya know. 94 years old.). I guess this one will just be a tang stamp collector's item.

Just a short rant against the USPS. The seller shipped this on Saturday May 26th. It didn't arrive until Friday June 1st. A flipping week to go the 80 miles from Chicago to Rockford. I get that Memorial Day was in that week and the Chicago Post Office was closed for three days but the other knife came from down in Indiana in two days (shipped on Wednesday, arrived on Friday).

I picked these up at the local pawn. I went through the junk box and just could not find anything. This collection came in several weeks ago and I pulled the trigger on two that I liked and were different for me. I have not researched much yet. I had problems with my camera and the pics are not great but you get the jest. The queen mini trapper just had to come with me today and will go into the carry rotation. The Parker Cut Co. whittler with the locking primary blade was different and something I was unfamiliar with.

This one arrived today, a Queen customized by MuskratMan and won by me in an AAPK auction. It is a real beauty and only the second Queen in my collection.

Nice. When I first looked at it I thought "I haven't ever seen stag like that on a stock knife", then I read your description and my suspicions were confirmed.

Every now and then I get a hankerin' to play Russian Roulette with knife lots on Ebay. Poor pictures, lousy description and a seller with little or no rating. Sometimes ya win, sometimes ya loose. Averageing out what I paid for the lot with shipping, I got this one for $1.38. It's a pre-1920 W.R. Case & Sons, Bradford, PA, 2-blade E/O Jack. It's well worn and the stamps are just strong enough to get a fix on the maker, but with those handles and great snap in both blades, I think I may have won this round.

Looks like a win from where I'm sitting!

Found three modern knives yesterday that I brought home (all cleaned up since I took the pictures); a Boker Electrician 9229 (TL29, ca. 1982), a Boker Barlow #492 (ca. 75-81), and a Kabar Stockman #1108, ca. 1998. The 4" Kabar has a very narrow main blade, not really a clip because there is no angle, not sure exactly what blade configuration that is supposed to be (I also have the medium size Kabar Stockman in the same knife and the main blade is designed the same way).

The main blade on that KA-BAR kinda looks like a California or Turkish clip with a beer belly.

I'd call that a definite win!!

This one was advertised as a "Kershall" on ebay and I guess that helps explain why I was the only bidder and got it for $9.99 plus shipping. It has some sort of eagle inlay on the reverse, looks like resin inlaid deep in the handle, I can't tell if it is from the factory or later customizing. This is my first Kershaw and first Maniago knife, and I'm real impressed with the quality. It has great snap and lock-up with a heavy, solid feel.

Had a pretty good weekend! 10 dot 64052 little congress and a 6 dot E-toe (no etch version). And a 64047 2 dot, that I had for a little while, just hadn't posted any pics yet. And a BIG Ol' Bulldog/Queen Mountain Man in Rams Horn (had it a little while too).
