If I may be so bold, how is a jack knife defined? I see 1-5 blades, 0-2 large and small bolsters, all kinds of materials used in this thread. BTW, beautiful knives Ben and I saw what you did there with the name. I assume you made them.

As a new guy I've asked similar questions in other threads what delineates a Trapper from from a jack from a stockman?

To me a Jack knife is any knife that has one or more blades all pivoting on one end of the knife. Can have one bolster or two or none. Someone more knowledgeable about this may explain it further and or better.

I’d recommend a “new guy” get acquainted with the “Research” section here on AAPK. (Click on Research in the header at the top of this page). As you scroll through the topics found there, note the “Glossary of Terms” which contains useful information, and illustrations like this: Scrolling down further you’ll find the Case knife pattern descriptions. Although it says Case, the descriptions are applicable to most patterns. After opening that link, scroll down to find “jack knife”.
Also, any serious knife enthusiast would do well to acquire a copy of Levine’s Guide to Knives. It’s out of print, so used book sellers (like www.abebooks.com or similar) are the best source. The 4th edition is the most sought after, so it’s pricey. IMO the 5th edition is basically the same book and much cheaper (I have both).
