Found a Camillus 1047 (72) Scout with a long line tang stamp that was poorly listed and the pictures were pretty bad. I picked it up for a very decent price and it's one I didn't have (tang stamp). It showed up today and I'm quite pleased with it.

I've been a busy boy and tripled my pile of 72's. There is a Schrade and an Ulster in there now.

I see one I don't have. The black handled Scout knife. One in decent condition at a decent price has eluded me so far. With a little patience I'll snag one of them rascals sooner or later.

Received this Remington ( 72 clone ) in the mail today.

Looks to be in factory condition. What do you think Grant? I'm going with Camillus as the maker.

I don't have a dog in the fight, but the BSA National Council seal on the box dates this to pre-66. OH

Edit: I saw that one. I remember thinking, "Why don't they just drive across the border to mail it and save on the postage and customs hassles".

Colonel -- The bone handles, 2nd generation blade configruation, short line tang stamp and lack of shield would date that knife to late '40s for me. Probably one of the first Scout 1047s Camilus made. I have one of those. I lucked on to it in October of last year at the Badger Knife Show in Janesville WI.

I received this scout in the mail today.

Grant, my hypothesis is that's the genesis of the #1047 and it was made 1947 - 1949.

Clues:

• Camillus started making the #1047 Boy Scout knife in 1947 (at least that's what the Scout web site says)
• Bone handles. They appear to have switched to that black shrinky dink plastic handles around 1950 (no facts to back that up)
• Scout etched on primary blade. No shield. The ones with the black synthetic handles have the shield (not round) type shield and all Boy Scout editions after that had the round scout shield.
• Second generation blade configuration (small clip blade instead of the pen blade)
• Short line tang stamp.

Great find my 72 brother and especially in that condition.

I just received this Camillus whittler in the mail. It not the Sword brand like you have.
Some one used a grinder and left a few marks on the blades and I had to clean the knife .( the blades are better than the picture shows )
It has fine file work on the bolster linings next to the springs

More 72s in today's mail. Another McGrew. It's a 40th Anniversary knife for the National Wood Carvers Association. There must be a bunch of 'em cause this is #0361.

The second is an early long line with rough black handles. Some cretin tried to sharpen it on a bench grinder but fortunately he didn't hose it up and I was able to "fix" it. Other than that it's in good condition and it came at a reasonable price.

Counting the #5 you gave me (in my mind it's a clone) and counting the Imperial Scout I just bought from Ray that isn't here yet, I have 50. That does not count the split spring whittler you gave me. It's split almost evenly down the middle, half Camillus and half clones.
