Almost forgot this one. Schrade Cut Co. stamping, these were "factory finds" handled by Shaw-Liebowitz as a special or limited edition.

Here is a matched pair of Schrade Walden stockmen, one an 825 stainless model, and one the identical-except-for-the-carbon-steel 895 model. Everyone wants carbon steel, and pays more usually, but I think the stainless are much more rare. Any other opinions??

Here's a pic of my latest acquisition. I don't know anything about it unfortunately. Bought it for a song at an antique shop. It's tang stamped

and "866" on the reverse. I've looked through the guides but can't find reference to a model #866. Anyone have any information about this knife? I think of it as a seahorse whittler, but with the sheepsfoot it may be more akin to a stockman. It measures exactly 3".

The first knife I ever bought myself was a Old Timer Improved Muskrat and that is still the platonic ideal of a pocketknife in my mind.

old name for that frame is "dogleg". same frame as the wharnnie. very nice.

The 866 was listed in the 1954 - 1958 catalogs.
It was called a Wharncliffe. It is listed as having a stagged handle, and clip, pen & sheepfoot blades. With nickel silver shield & bolsters.
It is on an unusual size frame, 3-1/16”. There was another knife made about the same time, also 3-1/16”, called the 766. The 766 had a clip & pen blades. It came with a black celluloid handles. It appears to be essentially an 866 minus the sheepfoot blade. I cannot tell from the old catalogs whether the 766 had one or two backsprings.

It appears that your knife has smooth handles, almost as if the handles of a 766 were put on your 877. Such little strange little inconsistencies are well known to Schrade collectors.

Perhaps LT will be along with more info.

I am new to this forum, however I do have an uncle henry 885, that was a christmas present from my younger brother. I was taught by my late grandfather how to properly sharpen a knife. So i decided to take it out of the box and sharpen it. I received it about 4 years ago and I never leave home without it. I am retired and i love to whittle on cedar and I whittle with it a lot and when it gets a little dull all I have to do is hit it a lick or two on a piece of leather and it is ready again. The Uh's are trully nice knives and they are always ready to work. Thanks for sharing the pics. Keith

Keith those last pics ( on this thread ) were not mine so I do not deserve credit. However it is not unusual for variances in handle materials from catalogue listings and that is a material consistent with Schrade. I have been seriously into a project recently so please guys continue to jump in and answer like you have been I appreciate it. ER except for automatics ( a joke) Thanks all LT

"I finally got around to completing my Old Timer Classic Case. Hope you all don’t mind a few pictures – I just wanted to share with someone who might appreciate the effort.



Picture 1 - View of the classic case with the frame polished and the glass clean.

Picture 2 – View showing the inter frame edge for the mounting board to rest on.

Picture 3 – View of the mounting board – I/8 inch plexi-glass with a black felt board attached using a spray adhesive on the plexi-glass.

Picture 4 - Small metal pins used to hold the mounting board tight to the frame.

Picture 5 – I divided the mounting board up into four quarters using a thread to aid in placement of the knives (Knives shown in the tins).

My newest Schrade, a Walden fish knife. I really love this knife. With the exception of a Camillus demo knife, it's the only stainless "collection" knife I have. I'm going to have to restrain myself from sharpening and then taking it out fishin'.

I hadn't seen a Schrade fish knife with the Staglon scales before.

That's a great looking knife. Sometimes, a shadow (bolster-less) knife looks like something is missing, but that one is cool!!

The Ides of March was bad luck for some Italians (Romans); just ask old J. Caesar, bless his poor punctured soul!
The Schrades of April, however was very good luck for this Italian descendant (Sicilian)!
Feast 'em on these babies; A smaller 3 9/16 Hawk, incarnated as a rope knife, nicely shielded. Then an older electrician's knife with the slim profile, and which reminds me of a grizzled old alley cat, with a few edges chewed up but ready for the next battle!
And finally the purty one of the bunch (though the hawk is no slouch), a 3 5/8" Balloon pen, known half-wittily by other names !
This is a pattern number 7633, seen in the 1936 Schrade Cut. Co. Catalog E supplement. They called that differently shaped Spear blade a "Zulu Spear"! Is that PC ? Do I care ?
Enough BS; without further delay, and not to keep you hanging any longer. . Hey . .leggo! ouch ouch, O.K, O.K! I submit . . .

lt632ret, I think there's a lot of SCHRADEAHOLICS. I have spent the past hour reading through this post and I have really enjoyed it. I stand and shout, "I'M A SCHRADEAHOLIC" and have been for the past 40 years, that's about when I got my first Schrade. Going back to the first or second page in this post, you mention something about (spouses against knives). For the record I got my >*%$#@*&^%(:< a new one yesterday, account a little old knife purchase. I just don't understand . Well today is a new day and the sun is shining.
