great knives guys! have one more i picked up from HH knives last week very pleased with condition was called OLD SETTLER from Maher & Grosh / natural bone

when I first seen it I thought it was ebony , but upon closer inspection it is black comp

MB, that particular handle material from Robeson is interesting. It's not celluloid. I think it has a fibrous matrix, kind of like Micarta, but not Micarta.

See what I mean?

It's very easily confused with ebony on first glimpse, but there's no grain when looked at with a glass.

Still a wonderful knife.

I have several great quality Robeson PocketEze knives with that material. I wouldn't shed a tear over it. It is a good, durable material, apparently does not shrink and maintains its color. What's not to like?

Charlie, I remember researching a patented Robeson knife and tha patent made mention of this "New" handle material Robeson was using, they may very well have had a patent on it.

I Agree, I have not seen this material break down like some of the old Celluloid does.

I am very happy with the knife just the same

here is anotherone that i dug up its a ec simmons keen kutter im pretty sure its pre 60s not sure but it looks like it

Nice little KK. It appears to be a pre WWII knife. It still says E.C. Simmons. They were bought out by Shapleigh c. 1940 and therefore this knife would date before that.

This knife meets the before 1960 requirements easily - French Dog Leg Jack with a corkscrew, 3 3/8 inches closed, Ivory handles, fancy bolsters, milled liners top and bottom, no mark (typical of the period) probably mid to late 1800's
