Tommy, I'm with you. Here aren't a whole lot of fresh water fish I don't like. Catfish is a big deal here as are crappie. But good bluegill has to be right about at the top of the heap.

Fried fish, huspuppies, slaw, and fried taters. Law! It don't get much better.

Nice pictures and description Philip; the forester is burning off underbrush in one of my two most productive turkey hunting tracts now. Hope things are settled down for the opener on April 8th. Nice fishing pictures Scott, looks like you guys had a productive outing.

Waiting on my new axle and hubs to arrive from Sarasota FL; had a dust cover/bearing failure and burned up the right hub last week - wrecked the spindle as well. No fishing until I can change them out and get back on the road. OH

........neighbor just up the street just brought me 3 big packages of filleted, skinned slab crappie!!...I told him I would dance at his next wedding!!!............ ......................

Yesterday I saw an Osprey (amazed, now that I'm aware of birds (Thanks Garry & Phil) at how common these raptors are (there's another word I didn't know or use 2 weeks ago)).
My grandson catch, land and release his bass.
A Sandhill Crane family with a newborn.
And I found a mega pine burl, and the base of a small pine tree that was rotted inside....so I had this idea to hollow it out and prop it at a 45% angle, start the bottom end afire and watch flames shoot out the other end (I'll post pics).

What a day!!

Crazy isn't it? And to top off me seeing them walking down the sidewalk, they gather nightly in this one very shallow retention pond, inside nighborhood, at dusk for the night......hundreds.....all in one place.

They congregate in the grain fields all around me. Loud enough to wake the dead.

This is for the deer hunters on AAPK.

I got tickled lookin' at the pictures of 2 little "wannabes" bucks tending a scrape I'd found on the edge of a food plot. Right before hunting season was over towards the end of February, I was riding along the edge of the food plot and noticed the scrape was still active, so I set a camera on it to see what was working it. It was a typical scrape under a licking branch but could not be seen from the shooting house because of several trees.

I pulled the card yesterday and saw 2 of the tiniest pair of spike antlers I had ever seen. We can usually identify "button bucks" by the bumps or pedicles on their heads but these two had such tiny little spikes, I thought it was unusual . I've watched a lot of fawns over the years and usually they are "button bucks" during their first hunting season. The next summer they grow some antlers, spikes or maybe little fork horns and so it goes. These two may have been born early in the fawning season to have these tiny spikes.

At least we know there are a couple of up and comers on the farm that know about the "birds and the bees" .

Here they are tending the scrape early one evening, kinda' like two teenagers just hangin' out with nothin' to do.

Beautiful pictures, John! What is the bird on the snag? Is that a hawk, since it's Hawk Mountain .
Being raised in Florida where flat woods are the most common habitat, mountains are always interesting but I've found them hard to negotiate, seems like it was always uphill and I know my age ain't got a thing to do with it .

Thank you!! That is an owl decoy.. We get a few hawks to dive bomb it and it gets real intense sometimes!! John
